My uncle started me into music by giving me as a present Metallica's Master of Puppets on my 11th birthday, that was my first approach to Thrash Metal, then I started to become 'Music hungry' and searching for new bands, found Megadeth, Pantera (not really Thrash but close enough), Anthrax, Slayer, Exodus, Sodom, Kreator, etc. I listened to some old school Heavy Metal at the same time -but not so much- bands like Motörhead, Judas Priest, AC/DC, etc, too 'Melodic' for my taste, I like raw stuff, that's why I started listening to Black Metal, Burzum, Emperor, Darkthrone, Immortal, Mayhem, Satyricon, Thorns, etc, then my music taste started to lean more and more to Extreme Music and Unerground bands like Von, Celtic Frost, Hellhammer (hence de nickname), Venom, among others.

Now I barely listen to anything that is not Black Metal, Witch House, Electronic, EBM, friends band music and weird crap.
Among other problems, a metaphysical vertigo was born from this disharmony, and he spent the rest of his life trying to recreate harmony through art...

Default How my taste in music has evolved

I have been interested in classical music since I was about 13 years old.
That was in the 78 rpm era when a disc running about 9 minutes could cost over $2.00. (roughly $30 today) Longer works were available only as heavy, fragile, expensive multi-disc sets costing from about $6.95 to as much as $35 ( this represented a buying power equivalent to about $104 to $520 in today's money !)

The only way I could get to hear symphonies and concerti was to borrow the albums from the library, and they usually sounded like hell by the time I got to hear them. In my 'teens, I liked mainly short piano pieces and classical and romantic orchestral music.

I did not care for opera and called it the mating of second-rate music with third-rate drama. I was not impressed by organ recordings; they sounded wooly and rumbly.

I got my first LP's while I was in the Navy. This was also the beginning of the high-fidelity era and was a revelation to me. Suddenly, organ music became powerful and sonorous. Whole symphonies appeared on single discs ! I could even listen to a whole opera on 2 or 3 discs and they started to make some sense.

I fell in love with Baroque music in the 1960's and bought every newly-released Vivaldi, Bach, Telemann, or Couperin recording as soon as I could spare the money.

In 1970, I discovered Indian ragas by accident. My favourite artists were the sitar, sarod, and sarangi players . I soon had dozens of LP's by Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar Khan, and Ram Narayan.

In 1980, I taught myself to read music and soon was composing bad chamber music. I built a clavichord from a Zuckermann kit and took lessons in playing it. In 1999 I bought a harpsichord and took further lessons until 2006.

I developed a serious interest in opera in the 1970's which included collecting early recordings by the great singers of the past and attending live opera performances.

The CD was another revelation. When there was nothing being played, there was SILENCE. For technical reasons, on LP's, the dynamic range had to be compressed. On CD's, there it was in all its glory ! This led to another spell of feverish record-buying., I soon had 800 CD's of Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and some Romantic instrumental and vocal music.

My taste in instrumental music has evolved away from orchestral works to chamber music, especially string quartets.

I now have far more records than I shall ever be able to listen to more than once. Anyhow, I shall never want for entertainment.

I basically listen to what I am in the mood for as well. ^.^ Even if it some music I know isn't of necessarily good quality but there is a certain memory attatched to it I would listen anway.

Witch House, EBM and Black Metal are awesome. It"s hard though to find decent witch house anymore though.
