Abuse of negrep function

No harm in using positive reps for such purposes, though.

Yeah, same here. I often comment or give people a bit of advice via rep.

The only neg-rep I recall getting was from IM - 'arrogant englishman' or something like that.
It was because I said I didn't want his people associated with the English, but I put it across a bit different from that.

True, but it all mounts up. Tuan and Laggerland probably have about 1/4 of their rep from me doing it that way.

To be honest I wouldn't be bothered half the time, via the rep comments is just easy for short messages. Think of it like a forum version of a pager.

But everyone can see them, the rep comments can only be seen by me, the person I sent them to and the admin (if they decide to look).
Some things are in rep comments for a reason and are not to be broadcast to the world.

Then you should use private messages, rep comments can be read by mods.
