    Vergelegen Wine Estate

    Meerlust Wine Estate



    Long recognized for producing world-class wines, Meerlust Estate has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. Today, the traditional dedication to the art of winemaking continues under the guidance of Hannes Myburgh, eighth generation custodian of this seventeenth-century national monument.

    Meerlust, with its historic manor house, classic wine cellar, family cemetery, dovecote and bird sanctuary is situated fifteen kilometers south of Stellenbosch, with the blue crescent of False Bay a mere five kilometers away. Wines are only made from grapes grown on the Estate which is uniquely positioned for the production of wines with exceptional complexity and character.

    In the summertime, ocean breezes and evening mists roll in from the coast to cool the vineyards. The grapes ripen slowly, thus achieving full, concentrated varietal flavours. The soils consist of predominantly deep, well drained Hutton and Clovelly soil types, affording the vines excellent drought resistance and an ideal substrata for producing concentrated, complex wines.


    Rust en Vrede Wine Estate




    For 315 years Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. Through centuries there were periods when wine was produced, but for the last 32 years our family have specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot.

    Many accolades have been bestowed upon the estate and some of the more memorable were when Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to be served at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner and hosting the Queen of Denmark for a lunch with my family at the Manor House. Rust en Vrede was nominated as the first South African red wine in the Top 100 Wines of the World and repeated this achieved for four consecutive years.

    Today Rust en Vrede continues to be a fine example of what Stellenbosch is all about and we will strive to be a driving force in promoting our wines, our region and ultimately our country.

    Kanonkop Wine Estate



    Kanonkop Estate has been described by those in the know as being the South African equivalent of a Premier Cru or First Growth.

    Klein Constantia Wine Estate

    Hamilton Russel Winery



    Hamilton Russell Vineyards, one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa and one of the closest to the sea - is located in the beautiful, cool, maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, just behind the old fishing village of Hermanus. The Estate specialises in producing highly individual, terroir driven Pinot noir and Chardonnay, which are widely regarded as the best in South Africa and among the best in the New World.

    Founder, Tim Hamilton Russell purchased the undeveloped 170 hectare property in 1975, after an exhaustive search for the most southerly site on which to make South Africa’s top cool climate wines from a selection of noble varieties. His son Anthony Hamilton Russell, who took over in 1991 (finally buying the property in 1994), narrowed the range to Pinot noir and Chardonnay only and registered Hamilton Russell Vineyards as an Estate, committing to work only with grapes from their terroir. Extensive soil research initiated in 1994 identified 52 hectares of stony, clay-rich, shale-derived soil as optimal for the individual, origin expressive style they aim for and all plantings have now been limited to this soil type.

    Anthony with winemaker Hannes Storm and viticulturist Johan Montgomery are completely dedicated to expressing the personality of the Hamilton Russell Vineyards terroir in their wines. Tiny yields and intense worldwide demand keep the elegant, highly individual, Estate grown Pinot noir and Chardonnay in very short supply.


    Thelema Mountain Vineyards




    This time of the year reminds me of the story of the schoolboy, who, when asked where his Dad worked, replied "No my Dad doesn't work – he's a farmer!" It seems to be assumed by many that the only time we work is during the vintage, which, admittedly, is a frantic period, but there is something to keep us busy all year long. Currently we are shepherding our vines along, trying to produce healthy and flavourful grapes come harvest time. This entails meticulous canopy management, disease control and judicious irrigation practices – all part of our farming job! What we have no control over is the weather, but this is looking good for the moment, and we haven't had the strong and damaging winds this year that have been common recently.

    In the winery we are busy getting the 2010 red wines into bottle. This is a laborious job as we have to taste the wine from each and every barrel (about 500 barrels for the 2010 reds) and then make decisions on where the wine from each barrel should go. It's actually a satisfying job, especially this year as the wines look fantastic. We are doing the same with the wooded white wines, and they too are looking great. All this work requires to be completed before the new vintage, which we anticipate to begin in February next year.

    No matter how busy we are, we would still love to see you in the tasting room, should you be in Stellenbosch.

    Simonsig Wine Estate



    Simonsig Estate upholds the legendary status of pioneering wine excellence shaped by the Malan dynasty’s devotion to quality and innovative winemaking.     Rustenberg Wine Estate



    From the fine Riedel tasting glasses that bring out the bouquet of the wines you sample, to the taps in spittoons that are activated by body temperature, Rustenberg's tasting centre accents visitor comfort. The minimalist modern interior is set within a traditional framework: the long, low building was the former farm stables.

    Simon Barlow's brief to the architect was simple: There are many tasting rooms in the Winelands. Too few are special. Design one for us that will make visitors gasp WOW! as they walk in. Judge for yourselves whether he succeeded. Park your car, stroll across the road into the upper level of the centre. Descend the graceful spiral staircase into the tasting area, where Elreda and Roland, will welcome you as guests to the farm.

    Cederberg Wine Estate



    South Africa’s most uniquely situated wine farm falls within the pristine environs of the Cederberg Wilderness Area, which lies in the Cape Floral Kingdom. Here, among spectacular rock formations and fynbos, you will find the highest altitude vineyards in the Cape. Conservation is fundamental and Cederberg Private Cellar is a committed member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative.

    The cold climate and remote location, with its pure mountain air and water, ensures that the vines are virus free. This results in award-winning wines which show an exceptional purity of fruit.     Die Bergkelder



    The Bergkelder was built in 1968 into the Papegaaiberg, from which it derives its name. The cellar was the first mountain cellar in the country and was named after the annual clay pigeon shoot, held to commemorate the birthday of Governor Simon van der Stel in the late 1700s.

    Besides the tastings which are presented as part of the tours, we have ongoing, all day tastings in our wine centre. A selection of fine wines, focussing on Fleur du Cap but also offering many others, is available for tasting every day.


    Aan De Doorns




    Situated just 8km from Worcester on the R43 to Villliersdorp, Aan de Doorns is one of the larger cellars in the Worcester region. A highly respected name in the wine making world of South Africa, Aan de Doorns Cellar was establishe in 1955. The cellar's forward-thinking and the ability to shift their goals always further has produced a success formula in excellent vineyard practice and quality wine making.

    The consistently good and pleasingly affordable wines are produced from select vineyards. The cellar's vineyards consist of 1200 hectare on 24 farms in the Aan de Doorns, Overhex, Eilandia and Scherpenheuvel areas. The cellar is partner in the First Cape Group, currently one of the most successful brands in the UK.


    Allée Bleue Wines




    As one of the oldest vineyard in the Cape, the Allee Bleue Estate lies in a picturesque location in the Franschhoek Valley - an area with a distinct French influence. Snow-white, thatched buildings are surrounded by vineyards, orchards and fragrant fields of herbs and lavender.

    Our white wines reflect refreshing, fruity characteristics true to the Franschhoek climate while our red wines, being well matured in French oak reveals spicy aromas and earthy undertones as per the unique terrior.

    Both red and white wines are currently produced in an entrée level (blue label) range; a white label (premier) range and our 2 flagship wines named Isabeau (a white blend) and L'Amour Toujours.


    Allesverloren




    Travel to the heart of the Riebeek Valley in the Swartland for a day of wine tasting, splendid views and a meal with family and friends.

    Allesverloren is the oldest estate along the Swartland wine route and its history dates back to the 17th Century. It was passed into the hands of the Malan family in 1872 and the fifth generation Malan; Danie Malan is now the estate’s current winemaker and owner.


    Alto Wine Estate



    The Estate's sound reputation for producing world-class red wines can be ascribed, in part, to its excellent terroir. It is no coincidence that the area is known, locally, as the Golden Triangle.

    Our history dates back to 1693, when it formed part of the larger Groenrivier farm granted by Simon van der Stel. Today, our wines are crafted by celebrated winemaker, Schalk van der Westhuizen whose devotion to his craft is ever present.


    Altydgedacht Wine Estate




    Established in 1698, Altydgedacht Estate is a family farm where long standing traditions and modern methods blend to create wines of quality and character. Altydgedacht is one of the historic farms established on the fertile slopes of the Tygerberg and has been in the Parker family since 1852.

    Altydgedacht's white cultivars produced are Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Hanepoot, Sauvignon Blanc, Weisser Reisling, S.A. Riesling and Viognier. The red cultivars are Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc, Gamay, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinotage. Viognier and Cabernet Franc are the most recent cultivars to be introduced.


    Annandale Wines




    The history of Annandale Wine Estate traces back to the founding of South Africa. Annandale is the oldest farm in the Helderberg Valley.

    In November 1679, less than one month of arriving at the Cape, Governor Simon van der Stel left Cape Town on horseback to explore the Dutch East India Company’s outpost near the Hottentots Holland Mountains and, amazed by the beauty of his surroundings, founded the eponymously named town of Stellenbosch, South Africa’s second oldest town.

    Annandale was first settled three years later, although it would be another six years before Governor van der Stel granted title to Jan Wismaar, Annandale’s first land owner. Reflective of such heritage, a manor house built in the middle of the 1700’s and a cellar which predates 1700 survives to this day onAnnandale Wine Estate.

    At the height of its production in the early 20th century,Annandale supported over 500,000 vines on about 100 hectares of land. After the Second World War, part of the Annandale property became a shelter for abandoned and abused horses and home to a riding school before being returned to its roots with its purchase by Hempies du Toit in 1996.

    A river gently meanders through Annandale Wine Estate flanked by trees planted in the late 1600s in the era of Cape Governor Simon van der Stel who mandated that any tree cut for homestead purposes needed to be replanted.

    Nestled in a valley below the Helderberg and Stellenbosch Mountains in the heart of the ‘Golden Triangle’ of South Africa’s premier wine country, Annandale enjoys panoramic vistas that span to Table Mountain and Lions’ Peak in Cape Town and beyond to False Bay and the soothing swells of the Atlantic Ocean.


    Antonij Rupert Wines at L'Ormarins




    From its home base on historic L’Ormarins wine farm beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein mountains in Franschhoek.

    L'Ormarins is the main estate in the group of farms and is situated in the Franschhoek area.

    We have two attractions on L'Ormarins wine farm. Nearer to the entrance we have the Franschhoek Motor Museum; the museum has over 300 cars in their collection, of which 80 are on display at any given time.

    From the reception you are shuttled to our Chardonnay Tasting Room, en route you will enjoy spectacular views of the farm and valley. The tasting is a formal, informative, seated tasting.


    Arabella




    At Arabella we have a very simple objective: we endeavour to make the best wine possible. Achieving this goal is our passion.

    The name Arabella was chosen as a word play on the beautiful Arabian horses, which grace its verdant pastures. Stephen de Wet and son Jamie are both very keen endurance riders. Jamie received his national colours in 2004. Arabella is a complete family business in which every family member is passionately involved.

    At present we have about 200 hectares of vineyards. Our main varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Chardonnay. Arabella is a new venture established on land which has been in the De Wet family since the 1860's. As the vineyards had been etablished many years previously, it was assured that top quality wines would be produced at Arabella. A new cellar, bottling hall and tasting room was built at the beginning of 2006 and the first vinatge from the cellar was produced in 2007. Arabella got off to an auspicious start when the Arabella Shiraz 2007 won a double gold at the Michelangelo International Wine Challenge.

    It is the family's desire to establish the Arabella brand by giving our customers the very best quality at the very best price possible. But just good quality is not enough - we want our customers to have a special experience when drinking Arabella wines.


    Asara | Stellenbosch




    The name Asara is derived from the names of the African gods of Earth, Sun and Sky - Astar, Asis and Asase - expressing the harmony in nature's elements which is reflected in our range of wines.

    Asara focuses on the extra-ordinary, the quest for perfection and a complete delight in sheer indulgence. Our production is approximately 65% red and 35% white wines, led by our flagship Bell Tower Collection. Our entire wine range offers exuberant structure and taste.


    Audacia




    Audacia is a 32 hectare wine farm in a very special area of South Africa's prime vine growing and winemaking region, Stellenbosch.

    It's situated in what is known as 'The Golden Triangle' of Stellenbosch, a unique patch of land at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain.

    It's special because this is where some of South Africa's best red wines, particularly Shiraz, are grown and made. It's for this reason - and the fact that its vineyards are exclusively planted to red grape varieties – that Audacia has dubbed itself “The Red Wine Boutique Winery”.


    Avontuur Estate



    Avontuur Estate, home of Fine Wines and Fast Horses, nestles against the Helderberg between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Visit us on the Stellenbosch Wine Route for wine tasting, wine sales and a bite to eat in our deli-style restaurant.

    The Estate boasts a cosy tasting room where tastings of all Avontuur wines are conducted daily as well as a restaurant offering a mediterranean-inspired a-la-carte menu with daily and seasonal specials.

    Patrons are welcome to sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the view over False Bay or in Winter, inside, in front of the fireplace.

    Lying restfully amongst the vines on the estate is the beautiful Avontuur Stud Farm where the emphasis has always been on quality rather than quantity.

    Avontuur also produces a 10-year old and a Non-vintage potstilled Brandy, both of which are exquisitely packaged and perfect as a gift idea.


    Backsberg Estate




    Simply put, if you find our wines easy to drink and, above all, enjoyable, then we have been successful. The philosophy of Backsberg remains that of providing pleasure and enjoyment to a broad range of wine lovers by producing wines not only with structure and finesse, but with a high level of drinkability.

    As an Estate we are able to initiate and follow this whole process from the growing of the young vine till the bottling of our finished product. We furthermore believe that our wines should be priced to reach the tables of as many wine drinkers as possible so that all can share in some of the magic that is Backsberg.


    Badsberg




    Since its establishment in 1951, winemakers, members of the cellar and viticulturists at Badsberg have been committed to the production of quality wines year after year. This dedication together with modern cellar equipment enables Badsberg's team to produce a range of quality wines that regularly receive national and international awards.

    Visitors are invited to taste these award winning white, red and sparkling wines, port, muscadel and heavenly hanepoot in our modern wine tasting centre.

    Badsberg wine cellar lies in the picturesque Rawsonville area at the foot of the well-known Badsberg mountain from which the cellar derives its name. The cellar is situated a mere 800m from the Goudini spa holiday resort, 20km from Worcester and about 80km from Cape Town.

    Badsberg's emblem - the rare and protected haemanthus coccineus or March flower - is found in the area and has pride of place on the Badsberg wine labels. Traditionally, when this flower blooms in March hanepoot grapes are harvested. Badsberg wine cellar is situated in the Badsberg conservancy, an area reknowned for the conservation of the indigenous fauna & flora.

    Bartinney Private Cellar



    Bartinney is situated on the hellish high slopes of Helshoogte Pass and overlooks the picturesque Banghoek Valley in Stellenbosch. Passionately involved husband and wife team, Michael and Rose Jordaan, repurchased the 40 ha family farm in 2006 with a vision to create excellent wines and reawaken the charm of the beautiful property.

    The newly renovated boutique cellar now produces Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay from low yielding vineyards positioned on cooler elevated slopes. Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in deep red soils on the slightly lower foothills and the 2009 vintage is up for release early 2011.

    Bartinney was formally established in 1920 by a Harrods director who decided to spend the rest of his life in what he described as the most beautiful valley on earth. The 1923 Manor House uniquely blends English Tudor and Cape Dutch styles and features a sixteenth century Elizabethan carved beam of black oak, an Elizabethan wrought-iron fireback dated 1653, as well as Spanish leatherwork and Delft tiles originating from the Cape Castle. In 1954 the property was acquired by Dr Michael Jordaan and the current generation is the fourth to farm the property.


    Beaumont Winery




    Once an 18th century outpost for the Dutch East India Company, Compagnes Drift farm in Bot River, is now home to Beaumont Wines, a family-run winery with a proud tradition of making individualistic wines from ancient clay-rich soils in the Walker Bay region. Founded by Raoul and Jayne Beaumont, son Sebastian is the winemaker with daughter Ariane assisting in management.

    With merely 34 hectares under vine, the vast majority of the 400 hectare farm is pristine fynbos-rich mountainside, part of the Green Mountain Eco Route within the Kogelberg Biosphere. The farm is a treasure for both nature- and culture-lovers. The historic water mill is being restored to produce a limited amount of stone ground whole wheat flour while two beautifully-restored historic cottages offer authentic farm accommodation.


    Bein Wine Cellar




    It is a very special and wonderful place in the heart of the Cape Winelands, with stunning views, magic aromas and spectacular colours. Here, we produce our very personal red wine from Merlot grapes, trying to express all this beauty.

    We are dedicated to uncompromising quality throughout the entire process, from planting to bottling, and we believe this will find its expression in the wine and eventually your appreciation.

    As unique estate in South Africa, we focus exclusively on one variety only, Merlot! And although we have only one single vineyard, we produce four distinctly different wines from it. The solution lies in the modern technique of Precision Viticulture, which allows us to subdivide our vineyard into different micro-terroirs by means of aerial infra-red imagery.

    Bellingham Winery

    Beyerskloof Koelenhof



    In 1988 one of the Cape's most foremost wine makers, Beyers Truter of Kanonkop Estate, formed a partnership with four ardent wine lovers in Johannesburg with one ideal in mind: to produce a wine of exceptional character.

    Our philosophy is to give a truthful expression of the God given talents we received and doing everything in our ability to offer a memorable, world-class wine experience to all in order to be the South African winery of choice.

    The farm's original name was Nooitgedacht, which for five generations belonged to the Beyers family before Jan Andries Beyers sold it in 1895. Beyers Truter is a direct descendent of Jan Beyers, thus making him the sixth generation to farm this land.


    Bilton Wine Estate




    Come and savour the irresistible tastes of rich Belgian chocolate perfectly paired with our acclaimed wines - all in a gracious, old-world setting.

    From the first vines planted in 1726, to the cessation of 30 years of fruit, vegetable and grape production, to the innovative vineyard replanting programme in the late 1990s which optimised the farm’s inherent qualities, the complexity of our wines is rooted in earthy simplicity.     Blaauwklippen Estate




    The Winemaker can only complete what nature has started. As of 2004, we only make use of natural yeast, as grown on the vine.
    This philosophy of minimal interference in the cellar is also applied to the handling of the wine, where gravity is used rather than pumps.


    Wine making at Blaauwklippen is treated with respect and handled with discipline.     Bloemendal Wine Estate



    The 300 year old farm Bloemendal, set in the heart of the fertile Durbanville region, originally supplied fresh produce to the Dutch East India Company ships on their way to the Spice Islands. In more recent times the area has become renowned for its grapes of exceptional quality and concentration.

    All Bloemendal wines are grown, made and bottled on the Estate. These wines are the result of a combination of modern cellar technology, atmospheric controlled barrel maturation cellars, limited quantity-high quality grapes and of course, the personal touch. Through controlled crop yield and vine growth to maturation that balances fruit and wood, Jackie has created a limited range of wines that have won both national and international recognition.

    Boland Cellar has evolved into a truly dynamic and progressive cellar, and has progressed from being a supplier of bulk wine to large wholesalers, to a purveyor of fine wines competing on the global market under its own brand names.

    Over the past eight years, the wines from Boland Cellar have proved beyond doubt that it is able to compete successfully on the International stage.

    Our philosophy is based on the fact that quality starts in the vineyard, is maintained and enhanced in the cellar, sealed into the bottle and owed to the consumer. This ensures that 'quality' is not just an empty term used purely for marketing purposes, but rather a true reflection of the efforts of all the stakeholders in Boland Cellar.


    Bon Courage



    Neatly tucked between the life sustaining waters of the Breede River and the impressive Langeberg mountain range, lies Bon Courage Wine Estate. Here, André Bruwer and his son Jacques, together with a skilled and dedicated staff of some 60 men and women, produce a selection of superb wines, ranging from noble whites, classic reds and fortified desert wines to the elegant and award winning Cap Classique sparkling wines.

    Travellers and wine lovers passing through the area are welcome to visit the historic tasting room in the old manor house or to enjoy a delicious lunch, a glass of wine or a cup of coffee at Café Maude – a place for rest and relaxation under an old African pepper tree.

    Bovlei Winery



    Bovlei, Wellington, South Africa - At the foot of the majestic Hawekwa mountain range, a wondrous vinous jewel is positioned.

    Its name discloses a great deal of its recipe for success because it is certainly the case that the secret nestles in the soil - and that the difference lies in the valley. Yes, Bovlei Wine Cellar, or Boven Valley Wine Cellar as it used to be known, knows full well how to spoil the wine lover with the fruit of its labour from its valley! But then, how could it do anything else? Since the cellar was founded in 1907, it has many times produced the glory of this region - a region that truly can be called not only "the cradle of the South African wine industry" but also received the nomination as the "Top Terroir region" of the industry in 2010.

    Bovlei has 32 members and produces on average 8 000 tons per annum. In its more than 103 years of existence, there have been only eight chairmen and descendants of the original families still serve on the board or are still members of the cellar.

    Its ability to use classic wine making skills, combined with modern, innovative techniques to produce wines of outstanding quality and lingering memories, is at the core of Bovlei's award winning red and white wines.


    Brandvlei



    Famous for winning wine awards, Brandvlei Cellar is also well known for producing excellent value-for-money wines. Brandvlei Cellar was founded in 1955 and was originally situated next to the Brandvlei Dam. When the dam was enlarged in 1974 the Cellar was relocated to its present position. The modern new Cellar can be found on the R43 road between Worcester and Villiersdorp in the beautiful Breede River Valley. The name Brandvlei, originally Brandende Vlei, has long been described as the area around the Hot Water Springs.

    You are cordially invited to visit the Brandvlei Cellar to enjoy our hospitality and to taste our wines. Organized cellar tours can be presented on request. The Cellar has excellent facilities for receptions and functions. Wines can be tasted and bought on the premises. The complete range of wines is also available at Boland Agri (Pty) Ltd and Worcester Winelands in Worcester.


    Buitenverwachting



    This beautiful farm on the east-facing slopes of the magnificent Constantiaberg and barely 12km from False Bay, originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the new Dutch colony at the tip of Africa.

    Buitenverwachting’s vines produce internationally acclaimed Red and White wines of great complexity with unique aromatic profiles.

    Colmant Cap Classique and Champaigne




    Tucked away in the far end of the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, the Colmant winery is entirely dedicated to the South African bubbly-lover.

    Deciding to fulfill their passion, Jean-Philippe and Isabelle Colmant set about starting their own production of fine Cap Classique wines in 2005 and in the meantime importing some exceptional Champagne.

    Our cellar was erected from scratch in 2005. According to our philosophy of hands-on quality, we designed a cellar that was both modern, small and efficient, which allows us to control the whole production cycle. The cellar has been built in a "Cape Vernacular " style which matches the existing homestead and has wrap-around views of the valley and nestles under the majestic Middagkrans peak.


    Conradie Family Vineyard




    Conradie Family Vineyards is nestled in the picturesque Nuy valley just outside Worcester at the foot of Langeberg Mountains. The farm Werda has been in the family since 1871 and C.P. Conradie is the fifth generation wine maker there. The 90ha vineyards, consists of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Colombar, Riesling, Nouvelle, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage.

    The unique terroir against the Langeberg, together with the combination of different soil types and controlled irrigation, makes Conradie Family Vineyards highly suitable for the production of premium wines. The grapes are selected by hand, from which excellent wines are produced. The cellar’s fame and uniqueness lies in the producing of small quantities of wine and can be associated with the name “Private cellar” found on its label, thus keeping it as exclusive as possible.


    Constantia Glen




    Acclaimed for bespoke wines and sweeping panoramic views, Constantia Glen is one of the gems of the Constantia Valley, the home of South African wine with a proud history of winemaking dating back to 1685.


    D'Aria



    The D’Aria winery is a study in simple sophistication. The clean lines and geometric shapes of squares and arches on the exterior echo the historic Cape Dutch architectural vernacular.

    D’Aria wines are handcrafted from start to finish. Grapes are hand picked and bunches and berries undergo a second sorting, also by hand, at the cellar.


    De Compagnie Wine Estate



    In a region that is known for its majestic mountains, hot summer sun, age old shady oak trees and icy winters, lies De Compagnie Wine Estate in the historic Val du Charron, the Wamakersvallei.

    The Estate of 27 hectares lies snugly hidden in the narrow valley between the cliffs of the Hawekwa Mountains and Groenberg, 5 kilometers outside the picturesque village of Wellington, on the Bovlei-route.

    The production of the 16ha vineyard on De Compagnie Wine Estate allows personal and dedicated attention to each facet of vineyard cultivation and the wine making process to ensure uncompromised, superior quality. The aim of De Compagnie is not only to satisfy the expectations of the connoisseur, but to ensure a unique experience in the enjoyment of fine wines.


    De Grendel




    De Grendel means “the latch” in Dutch – this farm was historically the gateway on the route to the inland settlements of Durbanville and Stellenbosch which had to be opened to traverse the Tygerberg.

    Like so many memorable stories about the origin of great wines and farms, the Graaff family tell a historical tale steeped in heritage.

    The farm has been in the Graaff family for three generations. Baronet, Sir David Graaff, retired politician and leading wine farmer, continues the legacy left by his father and grandfather before him.

    The tasting room has a prime spot on the top level with an expansive view, a fireplace for winter and a veranda for sunny days. Food and wine matching will be taken to new heights with flights of food created around the main character of the wine.


    De Meye Wines



    The farm and winery is named after the De Meye river in Holland, where the first Myburgh, who came to South Africa in 1665, used to live.De Meye is 100ha in size of which 50ha is planted to vineyard. The vines grown on the farm have been carefully selected to suit our terroir.

    The owners Jan and Philip Myburgh are the fifth generation to farm in this area. All our wines are produced from grapes grown on our farm. They speak of modern vineyard management, great care taken from the vineyard to the cellar, respect for our environment and of attention to detail.


    De Morgenzon



    All wine estates in the Western Cape are beautiful and all have unique terroir. However, we believe that DeMorgenzon is the most extraordinary of them all. Our slopes rise from about 200m to nearly 400m above sea level and our vistas embrace Cape Town, Table Mountain, Cape Point, Cape Hangklip, the Hottentots Holland mountains, Helderberg and Simonsberg with the ocean as a backdrop.

    While we could call ourselves 'mountain vineyards' we prefer to be known as 'garden vineyards'. In Spring specially chosen wildflowers flourish between our vines. We have no doubt that a biodiverse and ecologically sensitive environment produces infinitely better grapes and the beauty of our gardens is captured in every bottle of our wine.


    Chamonix Wine Farm




    Cape Chamonix Wine Farm is situated on the eastern mountain slopes of the fertile Franschoek Valley to the north of Cape Town.

    Cape Chamonix Wine Farm produces a range of premium wines that capture the essence and splendour of the estate. Chamonix also produces export fruit, and a superior German-style schnapps. A range of flavoured spring waters and a variety of bar mixers is bottled from the spring deep within the mountains on the farm.


    De Waal Wines



    Uiterwyk (1682), situated in the cool Stellenbosch Hills, has been a De Waal family concern since 1864. The wines combine elegant Old World finesse and abundant New World fruit. This modest family caused quite a stir in 1998 by winning Wine Magazine's Champion Pinotage award with their single vineyard wine, the Top-of-the-Hill Pinotage, made from more than 50-year-old vines.


    De Zoete Inval Wine Estate



    De Zoete Inval farm has been in the Frater family since 1878, the current generation of Fraters on the farm is the fifth generation on this eccentric estate and has been making wine for more than 115 years.


    Delheim



    We welcome visitors throughout the year to come and taste our wines in our famous "Downstairs" cellar. It is one of the few farms where you can sit and relax, while enjoying a wide selection of wines. For those who like their wines aged, we have the "Collectors Corner" where you can browse at your own leisure, or admire our spider web covered windows which has become a legend of its own.

    Visit the heart of Delheim with a guided tour through its cellar. The tour will take you from where the grapes are received and processed, to where the end product is bottled and labeled a real learning experience for both young and old.


    Diemersdal



    Making wine runs in the family at Diemersdal. Six generations of winemakers with one passion have made fine wines at the Estate since the 1800’s.

    Today, Diemersdal is renowned for its award-winning range of red and white wines enjoyed locally and exported to the far corners of the globe.

    In pursuit of the award-winning red wines that give expression to the rich diversity of the terroir, we use traditional open fermenters to enhance the natural flavours and soften the tannins in our grapes. We take great care in choosing the barrels for each cultivar.

    For the white wines, we have a brand new state-of-the art winery where we adopt an approach of minimum intervention to conserve prominent varietal character.


    Dieu Donne Vineyards



    The view from Dieu Donne is well-known among those who wish to identify the famous landmarks of Franschhoek, watch the sun setting over the Simonsberg Mountains, or just love enjoying a glass of wine during a picnic at this scenic spot.

    The gift of perfect conditions

    Dieu Donne is situated high on the steep southwest facing slopes of the Franschhoek Mountains. Here the sun is tempered, ensuring slow ripening of our grapes. And thanks to cool summer conditions and Dieu Donne's unique soil strata of Hutton and Clovelly from weathered granite with a rocky top soil, found only in this corner of the Valley, the vines do not show excessive vigour, nor do they over-produce. This exceptional terroir gives Dieu Donne wines their special character.

    Dieu Donne grows two thirds red and one third white grapes. The cellar produces 16 500 cases per year, of which nearly half is exported to countries around the globe.

    Doolhof Wine Estate



    When Settlers first set sight on this magical valley in the early 18th Century they noted the many hills and vales and aptly named it "Doolhof", an Afrikaans word meaning Labyrinth. Today, this labyrinthine topography is harmonised with the positioning of our vineyards, making good use of the many micro-climates and terroirs which are ultimately expressed in the Doolhof Estate wines.

    Today, it stands as proud testimony to its Old Cape heritage, its historic buildings carefully restored and perfectly situated in a beautiful, landscaped setting. While Doolhof’s modern facilities, quality grape production, modern viticultural methods and award winning wines ensure its place in the 21st century – a continuation of three centuries.


    Dornier Wines



    We are led by the principles of tradition and inspired by perfection; yet realise the power of innovation. Everything that Dornier stands for and embodies – be it the place or the wines – creatively fuse the opposites of change and stasis, seriousness and pleasure, complexity and simplicity. We embrace difference where it leads to improvement, and still recognise the value of what has come before.

    Dornier is situated on ancient deep, decomposed red and yellow granite, Tukulu (yellow) and Oakleaf (red) soils. While varying in clay content, they all have good moisture retention and keep the vine roots cool. These complex soils are vital in giving our wines their unique character, as is the range in altitude of the vineyards – from 100 and 200 metres above sea level. A multitude of aspects add to vineyard diversity and the high mountain peaks trap the cool Atlantic breezes to slow the ripening and create intense flavour compounds.


    Du Toits Kloof Winery



    Du Toitskloof Wines is a prominent South African producer of a range of white and red cultivar and blended wines in addition to noble late harvest and fortified wines. It is located in a scenically beautiful area near the town of Rawsonville in the Breede River Valley, at the entrance to the spectacular Du Toitskloof Mountain Pass. Du Toitskloof Wines is today a well-established brand, and its wines are available not only everywhere in South Africa, but also in a growing number of world markets as diverse as those of Brazil, Africa and Russia.
    The wines produced range from fresh, crispy white varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc to medium to full-bodied reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinotage and Shiraz. Sweeter and fortified wines include Hanepoot, Jerepigo, Red Muscadel and Port.


    Dunstone Wines



    Dunstone Wines is a small boutique winery lying at the foothills of the historic Bainskloof pass in the beautiful Bovlei Valley, outside Wellington. Dunstone Wines have been attracting a lot of attention with their wines, which have won a number of awards, including double gold at the recent Michelangleo 2010 competition.


    Eikendal Vineyards



    Eikendal cellar with its distinctive barrel-vaulted cellar and towering fountain is a landmark on the R44 road between Somerset West and Stellenbosch.

    Eikendal’s innovative winemaker Nico Grobler concentrates on classic varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the Flagship Bordeaux-style Eikendal Classique. Numerous awards and accolades from around the world bear testimony to Eikendal’s fine wine heritage.


    Excelsior Estate



    Excelsior Estate has been owned by the De Wet family since 1870. The current owners are Freddie and his son, Peter de Wet. It is their philosophy at Excelsior that good wine is made in the vineyards and that the winemaker can only succeed if he has good, basic ingredients with which to work.

    Visitors may samples some of these award-winning wines in the wooden beamed tasting room with doors opening onto a deck overlooking the vineyards and a dam where water birds make their home year round. In the distance the Langeberg Mountain range is capped with snow in winter and forms a backdrop in a palette of purple and blue in summer.

    If you'd like to become an honorary De Wet family member, take up the tradition of blending your own varietal, bottle, cork and label your own creation and return home with a bottle of wine that combines generations of skill and flair with your own style.

    Fairview's modern winery combines the use of hi-tech equipment with traditional winemaking techniques. Wine lovers are welcome to visit the tasting room, restaurant, cheesery, tranquil gardens or its iconic goat tower.

    At Fairview we are proud of our offering – a true winelands experience that stays close to what the Fairview brand is all about. Our farm offering is oriented around the enjoyment of excellent quality products in the company of friendly and well informed hosts.

    In our wine tasting and cheese tasting room, our hosts will guide you through a relaxed tasting of the products made right here on the farm.

    The Fairview cheese shop stocks our range of goats’ milk and cow’s milk cheeses, as well as a wide range of local relishes and preserves. Our cheesemakers also try out new products in the farm shop, so look out for interesting cheeses.

    The more adventurous could take a stroll through our vineyards and orchards, with their spectacular views or enjoy a mountain bike ride through the vineyards and the valley. Or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounds, while lazing in the sun by our pool, with the sound of flowing water providing music to natures’ background.


    Franschhoek Cellar




    Over 300 years ago the French Huguenots first recognised the perfect natural prevailing conditions of the Franschhoek’s alluvial sandstone soils, long hot summer days, abundant winter rainfall and varied mountainous landscape and valley floor vineyards.

    In 1945 37 wine growers from Franschhoek collaborated to form Franschhoek Co-Operative Cellar.

    The Co-Op grew to include 95 producers and peaked in 1984 crushing 12 000 tons. Sadly some of these vineyards have since been lost to urbanisation and replaced by deciduous fruit trees and citrus.

    As part of the premium stable of fine wines now belonging to DGB(Pty)Ltd, there are now xxx active growers who delivered 8000 tons in 2009. These grapes are harvested from farms spread out across the Coastal region of the Cape winelands.


    Freedom Hill Vineyards




    Freedom Hill Wines opened its cellar doors in November 2004. Situated on the slopes of the Wemmershoek Mountain, the historical Klompzicht estate lies between Franschhoek and Paarl.


    Gabrielskloof



    Tucked away among rolling valleys, just an hour from Cape Town along the N2, lies the secret gem of the Bot River wine route. This is “where real people make real wines”, and it’s here that you will find Gabriëlskloof, whose sole focus is to perfect the art of wine making. At Gabriëlskloof, you’ll find wines that are typical of the Bot River region, made with our own signature style and flair. You can taste a quintessential Sauvignon Blanc or linger a moment over our white blend, or wax lyrical about the Swartrivier Shiraz.

    With our restaurant as with our wines, we are passionate about everything local and source all our produce from neighbouring towns and villages. So, yes, our menu changes regularly, and no, we don’t know specifically what’s going to be on it next month. But you will definitely get good, no-fuss homemade food made from the freshest ingredients.

    Sample the current vintages of Gabriëlskloof wines daily. In winter, you can savour the wines while comfortably seated in front of roaring log fires and in summer you can relax in our courtyard surrounded by lush lawns and tranquil, reflective ponds. Our tasting room has spectacular views of the valley, vineyards and adjacent farms. Keep an eye out for the wide variety of birds that also call Gabriëlskloof home.


    Glen Carlou



    Glen Carlou's custom-designed cellar features an open-plan inner arena where visitors have the opportunity to gain insight into the vintner's art.

    To delight the eye, our attractive, wood-beamed tasting room offers panoramic views of the Paarl Valley and the Drakenstein Mountains in the distance. To reward the palate, a variety of memorable wines can be savoured.

    In the cellar our winemaker Arco Laarman and his team join forces with nature to create three distinctive wine ranges.


    Groot Constantia Estate




    The story of Groot Constantia, the finest surviving example of Cape Dutch architecture and one of South Africa’s foremost historical monuments and tourist attractions, goes back to 1685.

    The heritage of Groot Constantia would be incomplete without regarding its setting. As important as the product of the vine is, so the beauty and significance of the priceless Manor House and the buildings grouped around it are unequalled examples of Cape Dutch architecture both in majesty and simplicity. The collection of artefacts, including furniture and art, reflects the rich cultural tradition of the Cape.


    Hartenberg Wine Estate




    A beautiful setting at the water’s edge beckons young and old to kick off the shoes and indulge in laid-back weekend vibes and vibrant family fun on the farm, fuelled with live music and barrels of entertainment, all washed down with delicious estate wines and wholesome country fare.

    Conveniently situated midway between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, Eikendal is a prominent Winelands destination renowned for its consistency in producing quality wines and at the Weintaufe the spotlight will fall on its flagship Chardonnay 2014. After the baptism of this first wine of the harvest, visitors will get to taste the newcomer straight from the barrel.

Here we use the latest scientific vine management and pruning techniques to optimize the wine quality. Our wine making process compliments the grapes natural potential. All our grapes are hand picked and with whole bunch pressing, hand plunging the best juices are extracted. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks or in open casks after which the wine is aged in French oak barrels. Depending on the style our winemaker will use these factors in varying combinations to suite our market. We also select some of the finest grape parcels from around the Cape wine region, thus not limiting our vision or style.


    Jacaranda Wine Estate



    Jannie and Trish Tromp are the proud and passionate owners of Jacaranda Wine Estate. The Estate is situated at the foot of the Groenberg just outside peaceful Wellington in the Western Cape Boland wine region.

    The blossoms of the Jacaranda tree mark the start of the wine year for the farm, as harvesting preparations begin in earnest. Jannie is the hands-on wine maker and Trish is in charge of all other farm produce.

    Jacaranda has been a registered wine estate since 1995. Jacaranda wines are most well known for their Merlot and Bordeaux Red Blend - "Debutante".

    Jason’s Hill Private Cellar is tucked away in the heart of the Boland at the foot of the Slanghoek Mountains.     Gary and Kathy Jordan have been making world-class wines since 1993 on a farm with a history going back over 300 years.


    Klawervlei Wine Estate




    Superb wines are produced from great grapes. The viticulturist at Klawervlei ensures a perfect marriage between the terroir and the vine to ensure fine fruit exclusively for the wines. Klawervlei has typical Cote D'or soils and it's almost natural to select Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Shiraz as the new cultivars to compliment the wines produced.

    In September / October 2004 a terroir typical Chenin Blanc made from grapes of almost 50 years old vines will be released. This crisp and well balanced wine is best enjoyed with fish or shellfish, a country terrine or even some spiced food.

    Also to be released before Christmas is the Klawervlei Merlot. A wine made from well established Merlot vineyards which produced small berries and a low yield. This gives the concentrated colour and flavour which make the winemaker proud. This wine too is very well balanced and bursts with an abundance of flavours found in ripe berries. This wine will compliment spicy venison or game birds and off course a good steak and most cheese varieties.


    Klein Constantia



    Klein Constantia has helped to reclaim its former glory by initiating the revival of this famous sweet wine. Family owned and run, Klein Constantia’s philosophy is founded on quality rather than quantity, reflected in the wines regularly inviting accolades, both locally and internationally.

    Klein Constantia Estate produces an array of varietally labelled premium wines: Sauvignon Blanc (including the reserve Perdeblokke), Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, and small quanities of Semillon, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.

    Blends include flagship red Marlbrook and new flagship white Mme Marlbrook. Probably our most famous and admired wine is the Vin de Constance, a re-creation of the legendary sweet Constantia.

    Reflecting on our future in the global market-place has led us to develop a new, second tier of red wines, blended in a more modern and approachable style, though not at the cost of elegance, using fruit from both the home farm and Anwilka, Klein Constantia’s exciting new Helderberg property.

    Wine has been produced on this family-owned wine estate since 1695.     Kleinfontein




    The thatched farm house was built around 1830 by the descendents of the French Huguenots and was extended at the turn of the century. Tim and Caroline Holdcroft have painstakingly restored the original Cape Dutch character with poplar beams and ceilings made from reeds harvested on the farm.

    Kleinfontein is a working farm cultivating vines, guavas and olives and has an organic vegetable garden irrigated by water from the crystal clear spring which gives the farm it's name "Small Spring". Caroline's indigenous bird friendly garden was opened recently for the Wellington Garden Festival and overseas visitors.

    Kleinfontein produces small volumes of top quality wine with all grapes benefiting from personal attention and being hand picked at the peak of ripeness. Tim's first wine came to the market in 2004 and was a 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon which has proved to be very successful. A Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot and a straight Merlot are also produced with the latter doing very well on the overseas market.

    La Bourgogne



    La Bourgogne is a subdivision of the farm Bourgogne which was among the first Huguenot farms proclaimed in 1694. A fine Semillon wine, PROGENY, is being matured in French oak barrels, for release in the spring of 2005.

    A fine, traditional style Semillon wine - Progeny - is produced on the farm. This cultivar used to be synonymous with the Franschhoek valley and is making a comeback. Our 2005 Semillon was awarded 4 stars in the John Platter Wine guide.

    Our 20 year old vines are approaching their optimum years, and we hope to maintain the quality of our product. There are plans to produce both a red and a white blend, whilst our dessert wine is resting in barrels.


    La Bri Vineyards



    The wines of La Bri are a product of a notable mixture of noble cultivars, good soil and a Mediterranean climate. The northerly aspect of the vineyards enables the sun in the spring to generate the new growth of the wines.

    In summer the South Easter wind serves to temper the heat, keeping the wines cool and healthy. Long, warm summer days allow the berries to swell with a rich sap. The cool evening mists that roll in enhance the acid content of the fruit, the key to life in a good wine.

    La Bri has a subtle variety of good lands, some of it sandy, with a firm clay base - other soils are alluvial - deep and rich. There are 20 hectares of vineyard dedicated to the production of our wine grapes. Our cultivars are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Weisser Reisling, and a fine stand of Semillon, more than 90 years old. This special heritage produces a wine of remarkable character, naturally smooth, with a buttery richness.

    At harvest time, work begins before dawn. He speed of mechanical harvesting allows the grapes to be taken of in perfect ripeness: full fruit and a adequate acidic content, the all important pillars of a great wine. Before the late morning sun beats down on the vineyards, the harvested grapes have reached the cellar.

    Driaan van der Merwe of Franschhoek Wynkelder is the creative force in the wine making of the La Bri range. Franschhoek Wynkelder stocks the full range of La Bri wines and conduct tasting and sales in their wine center.

    Malan De Versailles




    The farm Versailles was established in 1789 by the French Huguenots. It is situated in the picturesque Wellington Valley, in the heart of the South African wine-growing area.

    The Malan family has owned the farm since 1846. Tienie Malan, the present owner, and his daughter Annareen took to heart the quotation "to know where you are going, you have to know were you are coming from", and set off in the footsteps of our winemaking forefathers.

    Misty Mountains Estate



    Welcome to Misty Mountains Estate, home to award winning wines, world class water, a fantastic restaurant and beautiful tasting room. The 46 hectare farm has natural spring water, multiple single block vinyards as well as olive trees.

    The Misty Mountains Estate currently produces Sauvignon Blanc Shiraz, Semillon and Mourvedre.


    Mont Du Toit



    Mont du Toit Kelder lies at the foot of the Hawequa mountain, Wellington, Western Cape, bordering Paarl, the centre of wine production in South Africa, and some 65 kilometres north-north-east of Cape Town.

    Some 26 hectares of vines grow on north and northwest facing slopes in weathered granite, and sandy loam in the lower areas. Only red varieties have been and will be planted - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Alicante Bouschet, Mourvedre, Tempranillo and Petit Verdot.

    Wine production at Mont du Toit is based on a traditional 'low-tech' approach. The entire Mont du Toit philosophy relies on the growing of the right grapes, keeping yields down, doing green harvesting (pruning away excessive grapes) at veriason and meticulously selecting only ripe fruit by hand during harvest.


    Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards



    The Farm is situated against the Klein Dassenberg Mountains. It boasts a quaint Boutique cellar, which has a unique character due to its layout and design.


    Moreson Soleil du Matin




    Situated in the Franschhoek valley, our vineyards are amount the first recipients of the morning rays, hence "Moreson" which in Afrikaans means "morning sun". The farm nestles beneath the dramatic Franschhoek mountains, which are snow-capped in winter.

    Bordering the one side is the Franschhoek River, which meanders through the fertile soil, carrying the centuries old secret of good winemaking. Bordering the other side is a natural forest, its deep greens complementing the clear blue of the sky, the mysterious purple of the mountains, the light greens or rusty browns of the vineyards and the bright yellow of the lemon groves. Two kilometers of dirt road leads you to Moreson through this kaleidoscope of colour.


    Morgenhof Estate




    The illustrious Morgenhof Wine Estate is situated on the slopes of the Simonsberg mountains outside Stellenbosch. This area is renowned for the high quality of its grapes and the distinctive terroir is reflected in the character of the exceptional wines.

    Owned by Mrs Cointreau-Huchon, Morgenhof Wine Estate dates back to 1692 and consists of 212 hectares of which 74 hectares are under vines, producing approximately 35,000 cases a year.


    Muratie Wine Estate




    Underfoot the land breathes. From the centuries-old oaks to the resting cellar and original homestead, a romance lingers of love, passion, grapes, art, life - of the story of a wine farm in Africa.

    Comfortable with visitors, but not crowds, the farm echoes old-world hospitality. The environment is authentic, the methods traditional and the surrounds, beautiful and unmanicured. The farm itself exudes honesty, humbleness and integrity - qualities and resonate in every drop of Muratie wine.


    Nabygelegen



    Nabygelegen, in the heart of the Bovlei "upper valley" winegrowing district just outside Wellington, enjoys a special interaction between diverse soils, slopes and climate, contributing to the farming of consistently high quality, super-premium wines in a very South African style.

    The old cellar dating back to the mid 1800's has been lovingly restored to make use of ancient vats and underground tanks. Situated beneath the beautiful Bain's Kloof Mountain Pass you can experience personal cellar tours and tastings in the most rural of settings.


    Napier Winery




    Our winery is named after Sir George Napier, Governor of the Cape of Good Hope 1837 - 1843, who distinguished himself by abolishing slavery. It was he who named Wellington in honour of the famous Duke of Wellington, his erstwhile commanding officer in the wars against Napoleon.

    Napier winery was established in 1989 on land farmed since the late 1600's. The farm was largely replanted with noble varietals to produce three top wines: a red blend in the style of the Medoc; a Chardonnay modelled on Meursault; and a flinty dry Chenin Blanc from indigenous old semi-bush vines.

    Although based on these models, our wines are clearly from the new world and reflect the distinctive terroir of our valley. All grapes are hand picked from our own vineyards.

    Our picturesque Neethlingshof Wine Estate in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands is flanked by the Bottelary Hills and Papegaaisberg Mountains.     Nelson's Creek Wine Estate




    Nelson's Creek Wine Estate stands upon one of the first pieces of land to be selected by the French Huguenots for making wine. A deeds office entry dated 1692 records the fact that the new arrivals from the Loire Valley immediately recognized the potential of the area and set about making their contribution to the fledgling wine industry.


    Nitida




    Nitida wines are named after the protea nitida which grow unexpectedly amongst our naturally occurring, though now endangered, West Coast Renosterveld flora.


    Nuy Winery




    Founded in 1963, Nuy Winery was build on only one corner stone-quality. Nuy winery is situated in the Nuy valley at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains in the Western Cape. Average rain fall is low, but the Keerom Dam ensures a year-round water supply. During winter and spring, temperatures remain quite low, thank to the periodic snow on the mountain. This promotes slower growth of the grapes, and results in healthy, flavourful fruit.

    At Nuy, our goal is to steadfastly produce bottle after bottle of wine. Wine of true characte. We purposely run a limited operation here, in order to ensure that every part of the wine-making prosess is done under a watchful, experienced eye.     Oneiric Wines

    In the family since 1783, Abraham van Velden founded Overgaauw Wine Estate in 1905. Set in the scenic wine-producing region of Stellenbosch, the 130 hectare estate slopes down the hillsides west of Stellenbosch town.

    Plaisir de Merle



    Plaisir de Merle is a historic farm located in the fertile Groot Drakenstein valley near Franschhoek dating back to 1693 when it was granted to a French Huguenot family Marais.

    The new cellar which houses wine production at Plaisir de Merle represents a minor architectural triumph. Designed by architect Chris de Hart and completed in 1993, it is a harmonious blend of functionalism and aesthetics.

    The Retreat nestles in the tranquil Upper Klaas Voogds Valley. The oldest building dates back to the early 1800 and has been totally restored. The legendary elegance and traditions of the 18th century are complimented by the conveniences and elegance of today. Today Rosendal produce three ranges of wine for sale exclusive to selected customers in South Africa, United Kingdom and Scandinavia. Our wine maker’s works closely together with Geir to make the distinctive wines of Rosendal. Our wines can be tasted and bought at the farm.

    The view over our pond against the backdrop of the mountains provides the setting for Rosendal’s Restaurant. Colonial style décor incorporates all the historical architectural features of the old winery.


    Ruitersvlei Wines



    Near the southern tip of Africa, where Table Mountain rises out of the sea to cradle the city of Cape Town, lies a remarkable region. With its mild Mediterranean climate, rich soils, long summer days and plentiful winter rainfall, it is no wonder that it was here, in 1862, that Johannes Albertus Faure found a home for his family and begun a tradition, which has become Ruitersvlei.

    Long, warm summer days and cooling breezes drifting in from the Atlantic Ocean create the ideal conditions for flavourful, powerful red wines and elegent white wines bursting with flavour. From the rich, robust Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve to the easy-drinking Mountainside range, you are sure to find a Ruitersvlei wine for every taste and every occasion.


    Rupert and Rothschild Vignerons




    Rupert & de Rothschild Vignerons is a partnership in wine production on the historic French Huguenot farm Fredericksburg, between the Rupert family of South Africa and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild son of the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild of France. The farm was founded in 1690, more than three centuries ago, by the brothers Jean and Daniel Nortier (Nortje).

    Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons wines are made from selected vineyard sites. Replanting of the vineyards started in the mid 80's. A diversity of clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Chardonnay were planted on the slopes of the Simonsberg mountains. Different slopes, soil types, rootstocks and clones play an important role in the complexity of the wine. The choice of rootstock was made according to the soil-types which are predominantly duplex and clovelly. These are well-drained and have significant water retention capacity. Only supplementary irrigation is applied during very dry years.

    Fredericksburg vineyards occupy the north-westerly slopes of the Simonsberg mountains. Adequate sunshine - and thus ripening, is generally not a problem. Rain falls mainly during winter from April to September and the annual rainfall is 650mm. The average temperature is 19 - 21C, and frost is minimal. The influence of two great oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian, produces strong winds in the form of "berg" winds from the northern interior and south-easterly winds. These winds moderate extreme temperatures; they also dry the vines after rain, which helps reduce rot and minimize pest infection.

    Spier Cellars




    "It was in 1692 that Spier's first owner, a German settler by the name of Arnout Janz, took possession of the land in Stellenbosch, South Africa. He soon realised the potential for winegrowing and set out to plant the first vines. In 1712 the first grapes were pressed on the farm and today one of the Cape's oldest wine cellar buildings, dated 1767, still takes pride of place on the estate.

    Winemaking is an art. The signature wines of Spier, distinctive in their individuality and expression, are hallmarked by a strong heritage, dating back to the plantings of the first vineyards.

    The Four Spiers range is produced at the Spier Cellars, which was completed in 1996. Enjoy a wonderful day on the Spier Estate, with lunches and dinners available at the Jonkershuis and Taphuis restaurants. Pack your own picnic basket with an array of wines and delicacies available from the farm stall. Summers are spent relaxing in the sun at the lakeside, while the children go for pony rides.
