Size and Phenotypes

Here in Brazil most german descents are very tall, the average german male height is between 183cm-185cm. Italians are 175-180. Portuguese are 170-175. Black people here are usually shorter, 165-170.

Ok, I did read an article some time ago on a weelkly magazine. The average hight was for men and women together and if I correctly recall was about the same for Italians, French, Spaniards and Portuguese and was 173,5 cm.
Of course man are a bit higher than women, I would say, in average some 10 cm.

Only for men, there is a well-known source and that’s the military files for the soldiers. Some are published.

I'd like to know if there are reliable sources about the average height associated to the various european phenotypes.
When phenotypes were called "subraces" anthropologists provided the corresponding average height but it was a lot of time ago (at least 50 years) , and in the meanwhile average height increased much due to better diet and stuff like that, so those data are now unreliable.

Most Brunn, Anglo-Saxon, Faelid are shorter than Keltic Nordid or Atlanto- Nordid.
Tronder, Borreby and Hallstatt Nordids are the tallest in Northern and Western Europe.
East Nordid are taller than Baltid types.

Faelids are taller than all the subraces listed above on average.

I couldn't get a heights for all the examples but we can see some common things.We can give it ago.

Impressions are important. I can say i felt short in the streets of Amsterdam at 177cm. I don't know if i would feel the same in Spain, i would have to visit.

The same for me, i've been to Amsterdam and people was generally very tall ! In brittany with my 1m81 im feel generally tall (tallest of my family,of my friends ...) but in netherlands ...

There is probably also some regional variation though. Pontids in the Balkans are taller than Pontids in Russia f.e. and Atlanto-mediterranids in Iberia for sure. The effect of the other elements prevalent in those areas should affect height, but still.

That Wikipedia table is mainly what I took into account.

That is why I was surprised about the stagnation of the historical growth in Portugal with regard to Spain, Italy and Greece. The data refer to this paper (2007), a very interesting one, as it informs about the evolution of growth in the second half of the 20th century in 4 Southern countries and 5 Northern ones. You'll see what I mean about Portugal in tables like this (for women, in this case):



We could say that the same thing happens in Ireland with regard to the northern ones. So I wonder if yes, it might have something with the Atlantic.

Save some exception, something I notice and I'm sure about this, is that blonde haired clusters inside a given population are significantly taller than brown haired ones

Just see those blonde and blue-eyed english men. They are like giants in a land of midgets.
