Σκοπός, scopos means guard (and also purpose) in Greek, and the prefix επί- (epi) means over, on top. Hence many villages built on an altitude in Greece are called Επισκοπή (Episcopi).

The Latin word episcopus is a transliteration of the Greek word Επίσκοπος.

Thank you! And it's Homeric Greek.

Are you Albanians still descendants of Myceneans?

i voted yes because i have been naive about the character of the shaddy neo-greek. in reality its like follow, the ancient greeks have been nordid blondes with pale eyes, 6feet tall and ectomorph. the neo-greeks are just shadow of past glories, they cannot stand in a row with the norden heroes of the past, with the greeks of homer, achilles the viking heroe and the greece of alexander the great, the macedon. neo-greeks are woggy, hairy and short with sometimes olive teint or pale skin but dark head and body hair with loud foul speech and a bit lazy. they are not the philosophers of athens or the warriors of sparta, the white people they used to be. just a shadow a glance of the past.

The Ancient Greeks sure did not portray themselves as "Nordids".

Being Greek was never about "blood", not in Ancient times and not now, (see recent post about Muslim "Greeks")

In any case, it appears that some substantial portion of Modern Greeks resemble Ancient Greeks (sometimes to an astounding level). Furthermore, if E1B and J2 are seen as Ancient Greek- they are aout 52% of male lines in Greece. That's without considering the rest of the DNA.

I don't actually think it's important- but just to discount flagrant absurdities i.e. Ancient Greeks were Nordic, Ancient Greeks were Black, Slavs replaced all Greeks, etc.
