You know, Farah's husband, the last Shah of Iran, Muhammed Reza Shah was himself half-Azeri from his mother side, I posted her pic on the first page, namely Nimtadj Ayrumlu.
Reza Shah (the father of Muhammed Reza Shah) who established the Pahlavid dynasty also had an Azeri mother, Nushaferin Ayrumlu.

No, its actually Ayrım. It has no relation to "Rum".
Since the Turkic "ı" (not i but ı) sound are not found in Persian, its replaced by "u" in the latter.
I don't know exactly the roots of Ayrım tribe, but they are not the Qizilbash Rumlu tribe mentioned in Safavid sources. According to Azerbaijani sources, they are related to the medieval Oghuz "Eymur" tribe.

The Azeris here remind me both of Anatolian Turks and Iranians. Not so much resemblance to other Caucasus groups.

North Azerbaijanis tend to look more Caucasian because of the Pre-Turkic people that lived there. Caucasian Albanians as they were called we're related to other Northeast Caucasians like Avars, Chechens, Lezgins, Dargins, etc.
South Azerbaijanis on the other hand have a more Iranic look because of the Old Azari people that they partially descend from.
Here's a good example of what I mean
Azerbaijan Republic President (has a Caucasian look)
Vs
Iran Supreme leader (has more of a Iranic look)
