Like said, their origin was traced back to Syria and their name confirms it, according to Azerbaijani sources Timur relocated them from Syria to Azerbaijan, and they were mentioned among troops of Shaykh Haydar during battle of Derbent, so I will go with that.
About "some source state that Shamlu was one of the two Afshar clans", they are indeed mentioned (in Azerbaijan sources) as originally having their roots in Afshars, aswell Oghuz Beydili tribe. But this is something else.

And Aleppo isn't in Syria? I didn't claim otherwise, they were obviously settled around northern Syria.
