Consider a intellectually disabled male, who is eighteen, would it still be considered fair? What about a student who is emotionally vulnerable, like a girl who has problems. The law took into account the possibility of all students, and then acted upon a general rule- the idea that if an situation could become exploitation for some students, then we create a general law which could be enforced. Laws are written for the potential protection of a group, not for each specific instance. And if this law is questioned, then all the other situations that could bring harm would have to be reconsidered. The law is a good one in many circumstances. Would you want such a teacher to be entrusted with your sister or disabled relative? Of course not. There is a concept involved here, a moral concept, which this law was written for. The young men have nothing to do with it, the law is to protect the vulnerable. Do you think our laws would be gender specific?
