I trust Snopes more in that then the national media which has party and cooperate affiliations (and are thus pro-republican and anti-union) and Snopes has been clear so the case can be closed. Propaganda.

I very much agree that some of these unions are indeed quite corrupt. It makes very little sense for a bus driver to make as much money as a college professor who invested time, effort and money into many years of education, in example, yet this is the case for many here in Pittsburgh, at least, from what I've read. Seems to be the case for New York too, according to this hilarious poster.



That's just one example of course. The teacher unions have led to a poor standard of public education in public schools, because some of the teachers have no motivation to work hard when their job is secured regardless, as another example.

I think unions have become far too extreme and selfish since their origin as a need for positive liberty. Or at least some of them do, certainly not the majority.

I say this despite having family in such unions, who rely on them (my grandmother and her brother, for example, are part of contractor unions.)

Storm Sandy: Cuomo and Bloomberg warn on NY housing

Tens of thousands of people whose homes were damaged by storm Sandy could soon need housing as cold weather closes in, New York's political leaders have warned.

Homes without heat would become uninhabitable as temperatures fell, state Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg put the figure at 30,000-40,000 people.

At least 106 US deaths - 40 of them in New York City - have been blamed on Sandy, which struck on 29 October.

Residents who had so far refused to leave their homes would have no other option, Mr Cuomo told a news conference on Sunday.

He also said there would be increasing pressure on public transport on Monday, as more people returned to work and the schools re-opened.

Fuel shortages were easing, but Mr Cuomo urged New Yorkers not to hoard petrol, saying more supplies were on their way.

New York City opened warming shelters in areas without power and handed out blankets to residents who insisted on staying in homes without power.

Well: I guess that they won't do much for those people. After all: it costs tax money and more money is needed to support billionaires.

Still don't have power(almost a week now) and there is no gas anywhere. It's not like I live in some isolated area as well. There's gas stations at every corner but problem is that they are either empty or shut off.. Maybe once a day there's news that a gas station in XXX actually has gas and the lines are HUGE and it quickly becomes empty lol.
