Richard Strauss Piano Trios Nos. 1 in A-dur and 2 in D-dur
The Odeon Trio: Kurt Gunter - violin
Angela May - violoncello
Leonard Hokanson - piano
Whatever you may expect from the composer and the titles, this isn't it ! This is charming, accessible, Romantic music, utterly unliike any of Strauss' later works. There is a good reason for this. These two works were composed in 1877 and 1878 respectively, when
Richard was 13 and 14 years old. If you hadn't known that he was a very talented child prodigy, you will when you hear these pieces.
They are delightful and very well-written, amazing for a boy of his years (Peace, Mozart !)
