Cossacks and Chetniks

My great grandfather from mums side have been Russian. My uncle says he have been a Cossack but I dont know it with certainity.

Im pondering if my great grandfather from dad have been a Chetnik. Because he have been a Serb Volunteer who fought for Serb King and earned Medall for his bravery in Solun/Thessaloniki against Turks. Are Chetniks only the ones from WW2 (Ravno Gorci,) or are they older like from Serb Uprising etc.
Was he "Chetnik"?

My Dad vehemently claims that he was NOT a Chetnik just Serb, but im not sure.

If he fought in Solun and that's it, then no, he wasn't a Chetnik.

Serb Chetniks existed before ww2, they began as a Serbian guerilla group in Macedonia to free the remaining Serb lands from the Ottomans pre-WW1.

I dont know his exact history. I just know he was Serb Volunter who fought for Serbia and the King against Turks, he earned a Medall for bravery and some squares of land.
