I think the conspiracy is from a mainly Christian group who are happy to have Jews blamed as it puts people off the truth.

Stalin was no Jew, but some of their top ranked officers were of some Jewish ancestry. Russia comprised of Belarussians, Ukrainians, Georgians, Jews, Turks etc. I don't think that Russia has changed throughout the years so much to be honest. The Russian Empire crumbled only to bring high ranking officers from the previous regime to a new one and when communism fell, KGB officers came in power with a different "tag".

Jews played a critical role in founding and promoting the egalitarian-universalist ideology of Marxism, in developing the Marxist political movement, and establishing Bolshevik rule in Russia.
