I was in Barnes and Noble today and I could only find one book on ancient Greek and from page 1 everything was written in the Greek alphabet with no transliteration or vocabulary bank. A goodly portion of the reading selections were from a Sufi named nasruddin!
They have a million books on Latin and 2 on biblical Greek, but none on koine or Homeric Greek.
I wonder how much of modern Greek is informed by Greek terminology from Alexander's time, or is it mostly words with Christianised meanings i.e. hesychasm, theosis and/or international loanwords?.. I stumbled accross onanismos the origin of which is biblical.
Anybody who knows anything useful about ancient Greek languages or modern Greek post here.
