Perhaps we should phrase this another way: freedom or tyranny? Capitalism in the purest form entails complete economic freedom without coercion. Socialism, despite what some utopians might say, is necessitated on a large government and a command economy. If you have people with guns telling you that you can't voluntarily work for, or trade with other people then you don't have freedom at all.
The problem with America today is crony capitalism; the big corporations with money can lobby the government to regulate the economy to suit the big corporations to the detriment of everyone else. It boggles my mind why the left-wingers think the solution to this is to give the government even more power and control over the economy. Evidently you want to do the opposite and get rid of the unfair monopoly-creating regulations so everyone has a chance. Even the so-called socialistic Scandinavian countries have more economic freedom than America.
