ENVOY OF HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER II AT THE COMMEORATION OF 203rd ANNIVERSARY BATTLE OF MISAR

Belgrade, 13 August 2009 – On behalf of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II, Mr. Cedomir Antic, member of the Crown Cabinet laid a wreath at the Monument of Karadjordje and Misar heroes near Sabac.

In his speech in front of several hundred people in Misar, Mr. Antic emphasized: “It is good that Serbia is renewing and that we are building a new Serbia, but we have to build on foundations laid out by the great heroes of our history, among whom Karadjordje and his heroic brothers in arms stand out with glory and pride”.

Besides the organizers of this anniversary, local community of Misar and Association “First Serbian uprising”, and several hundred citizens who came from all over Serbia, there were also present representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Municipality of Sabac, Serbian Military and Serbian Orthodox Church.

On 14 August 1806, 7000 Serbian forces led by Karadjordje Petrovic defeated over 20,000 Turkish cavalry and soldiers at the Misar hill near Sabac, and prevented them from reaching Belgrade. It was a great moral and military victory for Serbia.
