I have some Arabic language study materials yet frankly find approaching the learning aspect, especially the spoken language, so difficult that I've been procrastinating for awhile now.

I think you should start with modern standard Arabic. If you want to learn Arabic, i advise to stay away from local accents, until you fully absorb Standard Arabic.
