I'd assume if Romansch is close to Italian, it would not be the furthest away from Romanian.

It'd have to be either Portuguese or French from Romanian I suspect.

In terms of lexicon, there is no doubt. Romanian is the farthest and French would rank second. But this is with regard to the rest of Romance languages, not necessarily between them two. Because many of the Romance words in Romanian, as happens with English, come from French, not directly from Latin.

I'd say Romanian has the least Latin vocabulary, and French and Portuguese are tied for sounding the least Latin.

Romansh is a Rhaeto-Padanian language, that is, one of the three big Gallo-Romance groups. Closer to French and Occitan-Catalan than to Italian, even if it is obviously the group closer to Italian of the three.

While far from perfect -it's hard to be so with the Romance languages-, this is one of the best graphics out there to visualize the Romance connections. It might help you to see what I said about Romansh -remember that Standard Italian is based on Tuscan.

Romanian is surely the furthest away from other Romance languages, no doubt about that, not only it sounds quite Slavic but also has a large non-Romance vocabulary.. French follows next, although the vocabulary is much more Romance when compared to Romanian; If we compare "sound", I'd say it gets harder, since every Romance language has its own sound (though Catalan sounds very Spanish, especially the urban variants); Portuguese may sound a bit Slavic, but those are just rough impressions caused by the large presence of the "sh" sound and the reduced vowels, while Romanian sounds much more "Slavic-like" given a real connection; French has its own particular sound as well, probably because of the Gaulish substratum (nothing to do with Germanic as many assume)

Mirandese is kind of in-between Spanish and Portuguese. It derives from Astur-Leonese but has absorved a lot of Portuguese vocabulary over the centuries.
