Mostly Carthage, with some Sicilians whose families moved to Africa and then came back. We ruled over swaths of Northern Africa during the Kingdom of Sicily.

I always assume when I see very North African looking Sicilians, that their families had lived in Tunisia and moved back. Carthaginians would have been mostly Phoenician.

Mostly Levantine, sure, but they must have mixed with native Berbers. Carthaginian culture wasn't identical to that of their Phoenician ancestors.

Thus, the results you are seeing reflect the deviation from the average.

I included also my own and someone who is half English.

I'd imagine all of them except for the last two.

So Sikeliot, could you tell how many actual Sicilians there are? I mean, like, those who actually grew up in Sicily?

Saw your topic on the 23andMe forum. Nice discussion, but it's pretty much all stuff that we've heard before. A lot of theories, little consensus.

Do you share with that Arbereshe Sicilian? A shame she seems to be so mixed, as they're quite the interesting group.
