How so? There is not much Northern European there.

Here is what I am noticing for Palermo and Trapani. Some appear to be (in an overall setting) "outliers" for Sicily and others cluster not that much differently than people in the east.

Here's what I will say. If the Sicanians were Iberian, they must not have been like modern Iberians since not a single one of the Sicilians thus far has any percentage of Iberian showing up.

6.4% Northern E + 0.4% Eastern E + 3.4% ???, while most Eastern Sicilians are entirely S. Euro with maybe a tiny amount of AJ (as seen here) or ME.

Not as extreme as a Palermitan, but you wouldn't confuse this for Messina.

Are these people all within one family? I am sending more sharing invites out but so far I have not personally found anyone with such high Northern European.

No. I don't share with any families (at least not users with shared accounts or same surnames. I'm sure people are related.)

If the higher Northern European for Palermo seems to be a trend, then it'd make sense.. I can usually tell when someone is from there because of how much lighter and more Northern European they look than what is typical for Sicilians.. I rarely ever even see light eyes coming from Messina, Catania, or Enna.

I don't know how much of it is a trend, so to speak.

The ones I've shown are from my RF (except for the "100% Italian" Eastern Sicilian). I have very few people on 23andMe that I share with that I am not related to. So, people who are from other parts of the province than the Southeast may show different results.

According to the 1910 census, light eyes in Sicily were 21%

Ah, ok, I'm not sure than. When you were asked about your four grandparents, did you simply say they were Portuguese?
"Rich Gallaecia sent its youths, wise in the knowledge of divination by the entrails of beasts, by feathers and flames, now howling barbarian songs in the tongues of their homelands, now alternately stamping the ground in their rhythmic dances until the ground rang, and accompanying the playing with sonorous bagpipes".....Silius Italicus, Punica

Yeah, I wrote that my maternal grandparents were born in the Azores and paternal grandparents in Barcelos. I was born in Portugal too, so that might have also mattered.

Either way you're the lucky one for not being included as a reference.
