Classify a famous Dutchman: Jacob Cats

Now let's see how good you guys are. This man is Jacob Cats (1577-1660). He was a poet, a humorist, a jurist and a politician.
He is still known throughout the Netherlands as Vader Cats (Father Cats) because of the rhyme: "kinderen zijn hinderen, zei Vader Cats, maar ook hij vergat dat hij ooit een kind geweest was !" (children are trouble, said Father Cats, but also he forgot that once he had been a child)

Nordid very slightly dinaricized (slight bump in the nose)? But not enough to call him anything but Nordid proper. IMO.

People who had themself painted held the money and so had the last word how they should be portrayed. I once checked the works made by various 17th century painters of the Bourgeoisie, one item frequently (in ca. 75%) reocurring: the so called either Roman or Greek classical nasal shapes (prominent straight/slight convex deeptipped nose). During those days the Classics were trendy, and their appearance was known from the various statures.

As an example for this phenomenon I have here an drawing made by Isings, a Dutch schoolplate painter (those hanged in schools to show the children the various stages of national history). check the nasal shapes:



On the other hand it might be a small possibility that the nobles and bourgeoisie during the 17th century all had those noses. But I doubt it.

Some quotes (I will try to translate them):

"Even when a monkey wears a ring of gold she will still remain an ugly thing." (basically- don't sweeten the pill)

• "Wie geen lieve kinders heeft, weet voorwaar niet dat hij leeft."

"He who does not have (sweet) children does not really know that he is alive."

A lot of Dutch sayings are derived (to this very day !) from what Jacob Cats said and wrote and as such he was a cultural icon. And we have the official residence of the Prime Minister- the house where Cats himself used to live in (when he was the Raadpensionaris, or Prime Minister). The Catshuis.
