Default Are Ukrainians and Bulgarians the same people?

To me Ukrainians look much more similar to Bulgarians than to Russians or Poles for example. They have more Pontid types similar to us. The Pontid type had its ethnogenesis in Bulgaria. Not to mention there were permanent Bulgarian settlements in Ukraine before coming to the Balkans. So I ask, are Ukrainians just Bulgarians in denial?

Many Ukrainians are descendants of Steppe people that lived there. Remember that the Huns were there before any Slav, and they didnt just dissappear.

If I saw the Klitschko brothers walking down the street and didn't know their ethnic origin I would think they're Bulgarians:

No, we are different. But I fancy the Ukrainians, very nice people.

The brothers looks more close to Russians that Bulgarians to me.

Ukrainians are East-Slavs while Bulgarian are South-Slavs, so no, not the same people.

Maybe we were one people long time ago or at least they contributed to the Bulgarian nation via the Bulgars. The first recorded settlement of the Bulgars is ... Ukraine. All others are speculative. If Bulgars were not slavs, they were at least heavily slavicized by the Ukrainian slavs when they created Bulgaria.

The East/South divide between Slavs didn't exist back then. When Bulgars were migrating to the Balkans they settled permanently in Ukraine before they came to Bulgaria. They cut themselves off from the modern Bulgarian state. There's even 204,600 ethnic Bulgarians living in Ukraine today who trace their roots back to Volga Bulgaria.
