I've always thought some Greek words and names sound Japanese, especially those ending in -aki. Not sure why.

    Albanian sounds like Norwegian.
    Not kidding, very same sound.

I once went to a Japanese restaurant and spent a long time confused as to why I couldn't find souvlaki on the menu, because for some reason I assumed it was something Japanese because of the name.

If you pronounce -aki in a mainstream Greek way (blergh), it does sound Japanese. But in a Cretan accent, it doesn't! (sounds more like -atshi)

Languages in which I recognize familiar sounds is Spanish, Finnish and even..Hindi or was it Sanksrit?

When I am abstract-minded it takes a few seconds to realize they are not speaking Greek.

On the other hand the sound of the Russian language does not sound familiar.

Russian itself doesn't but speaking English, Greeks and Russians sound similar.

With Hindi -- you didn't think it was funny to see South Asian people speaking what you thought was Greek?

I was referring mostly to Spanish and Finnish. I have only heard Sanskrit from you tube videos, and some sounds do sound familiar.

IRL have only heard Urdu, and I was impressed. Beautiful language.
