A new Left wing Party that would unite old and new lefties? I do not think so. UKIP certainly will attract the dissatisfied former left wing voter..but assuredly UKIP are Right wing.
They should have gone with Andy Burnham. Mr Miliband lacks charisma, that's his main problem. As for UKIP, I dread to think what would happen to them if Nigel Farage left, Farage is UKIP.
The problem UKIP will face is that most of their voters are Tory defectors and will likely vote Tory in the next general election just to keep Labour out. UKIP needs to play it carefully - they need to make a Tory-UKIP coalition seem likely to their ex-Tory voters whilst not appearing to be a Tory "satellite" to their non-Tory (former Labour, Lib Dem) voters.
UKIP have attracted parts of the working class that would never vote Tory (because of the miners, Thatcher and the perception of Tories as rich snobs). They need to keep these voters somehow and stop them defecting to Labour.

There's a conservative mentality, but won't vote the Tories outright. Because they are seen as a 'Southern Party', that are a different type of right wing.

Would Miliband really do anything to upset the liberal capitalist agenda? I don't think so, only some token change like increasing the minimum wage. A decent sounding centre-left party is the SDP: http://www.socialdemocraticparty.co.uk//

And here is a rival to the BNP: http://britishdemocraticparty.org/
