I’m Not Mad; I’m an Introvert

All those signs sound like me. I know I am an introvert.
So... I hate it when I tell a friend or someone "No, I can't make it to... (whatever event)" but my answer is not good enough and they ask "Why?!" I think I am really really good at coming up with excuses but they seem to never work, the person still insists and will try to find ways for me to make it and make a plan for me to be there. I used to get really pissed off but I'm learning to keep my cool and calmly say no as many times as it takes. I'm just sharing that because I just got off the phone with a friend doing that shit!

I am none to determine whether I am introverted or not, as I doubt I have an accurate idea of myself.

Moving on to my question, with the risk of going far off topic; I would like to ask you (Kazmiera especially because I trust your/her judgement.) how you would define the feeling of needing to have a (specific) human around physically, but lacking the need, or interest, to communicate with the person? (To clarify, the absence of such a figure leaves one feeling frustrated.)

I realized now that one might interpret what I have written above as a description of lust; when writing "physically" I do not refer to physical interaction, I merely aim at the physical presence.

Yes. I have that too. Someone's presence is comforting but it doesn't necessarily require communication. More like "comfortable silence". I am fortunate to have a husband who doesn't feel neglected. He understands that I need a lot of "me" time and if I had my way it would be 24 hours a day. But I like having him around. He potters around the house, does things in the garage, watches movies. We sometimes don't speak for hours at a time because I'm in my own world and he is in his. We are the same in that way. Neither one of us feels offended by the others' silence.

Just because you are quiet and don't need to talk all the time, it doesn't make you a cold person. Although others might seem to think so.

I do want someone around. But if that someone was a chatter box who wanted interaction 24/7 it would drive me insane.

I think it is completely normal, at least by my standards.

Another thing is that I like being alone while traveling. Wether I am going by bicycle or train/bus. When I was in high school I would always make sure that I was one of the first or last people to leave the school, all to avoid having any company while riding my bicycle. Sometimes I would even choose a different longer road. I just wanted to listen to my MP3 and daydream. Not talk. Though, in the breaks I was always with friends or class mates, sitting alone was not my thing, but going to school and home was my alone moment.

And it's still the same. When I am going somewhere by bus or train I always hope I won't meet anyone I know.

I guess that's also a very introvert thing to do?

I used to eat my lunch on the toilet just for some peace and quiet!

I don't see anything wrong with not wanting to bump into people you don't want to know. I do this all the time! Besides, its important to have alone time no matter how busy or active you are otherwise. We all need a break sometimes.

Wow, I am really an introvert. One funny fact is that I do speak better to a crowd than to a small group of people. In the University when we have a lecture to do to the rest of the class I always get the highest grade.
