David Irving is a British historian who has in the recent past been thrown in prison for speaking his views. He writes books about WWII in which question the official Holocaust story.

I saw David Irving speak at a university in South Africa a long, long time ago. It was fairly interesting what he had to say, but without intricate historical background information, it would be hard to say whether he is being totally objective, or pushing some sort of agenda by accentuating some parts and neglecting to mention others.

His... exaggerations? I think are fairly well documented at this point. He is usually interesting though and his works, while flawed, are utterly indispensable in the historical study of WWII.

He could easily have been one of the greatest historians of the century, but he's so caught up in revisionism that it distorts his otherwise fine work.

As to seeing him speak I would like to be able to say the same, I suppose, but he would not likely be allowed to speak in this country.

I saw him presenting the Greek edition of his book "Ο Πόλεμος του Χίτλερ" ("Hitler's War", is it?) in Athens back in...well, too long ago to remember

Well. He's not the world's most objective Historian, I can give you that. His infatuation for Hitler was so obvious it was running down his pants

But I must say I enjoyed him ridiculing some typical communist spinsters who kept provoking him shamelessly, and I liked how he was a very a very elegant, aristocratic English gentleman

Many historians are not 'objective'. What Irving does is compile and present information which contradicts the simplistic Hitler/nazi/Holocaust tale was woven as a way to justify WWII (protecting Poland or 'democracy' could obviously no longer be used given the state of eastern Europe after WWII)
