Of course. Not only to protect them against criminals but more so against their own government. An armed citizen is a free citizen- an unarmed man a serf.
Of course people that have been convicted of felony's should not be allowed to have guns but the rest of the population should have be able to buy, sell, store and possess firearms.

I agree. I hate guns and don't ever wish to own one, but with so many criminals and gang-bangers with guns, we need upright citizens to possess them! Criminals like to prey on the weak. They won't wish to mug someone who may kill them. Restrictions on guns only take away freedoms and further confine mankind to dependence upon society. Sometimes the cops aren't there and you're forced to fend for yourself. You should be allowed to adequately equip yourself.

Nice strawman. I never said shot people can't survive. I said that gunshot victims usually have graver injuries and more fatalities than victims of fistfights and knives.

A gun doesn't kill people. The stupid idiot that doesn't know how to handle one does. So people need to be trained on using one from an early age onward.
But perhaps some people need to be "disqualified" on medical grounds alone- in perhaps a similar, but less strict, way as how we used to test people before they got enlisted.
