There is also that bizarre sketch published and filled in posthumously as "Tintin and Alph-art".

Of course, every french would agree with that, Goscinny was a far better writer than Uderzo was, or in all likelihood, will ever be.

I have never read Astérix in another language, but I am sure there are tons of puns that can't be translated, neither in English, nor in any other language, unfortunately. I assume those who were busy translating this for years did a tremandous job anyway.

About Tintin, there can't be any comparison, beside the facts both Tintin and Astérix were french speaker. The stories, the humour, the characters were different in every way.
It's never too early to start beefing up your obituary.

I am sure of that mate, I remember trying to read it in French, sure, I understood what is it about (tho, would be rather self-degrading if I would not after 8 years of French and having that same thing already read in Serbian) but it just was not it having to struggle with even the basic French.

Serbian translation is hilarious, but the thing is, most things guys that translated it changed from the French with jokes that would be funny in Serbian, they did not do literal translation, that way it'd be just stupid - translation is vital and our guys and a girl did great job, tho, it can never ever be as good as it is in the language it is actually written.. nor not-native speakers will ever understand it as good as, in this case, French people..

Aye, I'm a bit disappointed too! Is there any chance of a 're-up' to Rapidshare from anyone who downloaded them the first time? What were they, PDFs?
