to me it sounds more spanish... probably because most of its speakers are bilingual, and that affects the way they speak it... catalan and basque also sounds quite spanish to me(i know basque is completely unrelated to spanish)

When I was not used to listen to Spanish it sounded like Spanish to me. Now I can see the differences, they use words more similar with Portuguese (before knowing Spanish better I wouldn't notice this).

Now it sounds like a Spanish version of the Portuguese northern accents. It's funny.

This is not the best example, but it still possible to see many similarities in the intonation.

Catalan has an interesting thing, although they have words less identical to Portuguese, some words sound just like Portuguese in terms of accent. While in Galician even similar words usually sound with a bit of Spanish accent.

Because the original accents from the middle ages were better preserved in Portugal and Cataluña than in the rest of the peninsula, who were under more Castilian influence. Ladino also sounds similar to both, despite being an off-shot of Old Castilian.

Rural Galician sounds extremelly similar to rural Portuguese in the northern areas, since they have avoided influence from the mainstream accents of both countries.
