Yes, they seem to have DNA from both southeast Asia, and Melanesia.

From my observations they seems to be a mix of Mongoloids and Veddoids. Some of them have very strong Veddoid features while others have obvious Mongoloid elements. What I find odd is the fact that both Mongoloids and Veddoids are quite short on average while Polynesians often grow very tall. But it could be the result of recent European admix.

Interstingly all Polynesians (Maoris, Samoans, Tongas etc) strictly refuse any connection with Australian aborigines. They were aware of each other even before Europeans came to them as they had contacts in the past but they have never mixed and consider each other as distinct totally unrelated groups.

No, that is deffo a NO. The admixtures that originated that racial group took place long ago, evolution played an important role too. Their living in isolated regions and their exposing to very specific living conditions somehow gave them certain physical characteristics such as being big, there must have been also something in their ancestral diet that influenced them it that way.

Listen, for instance amerinds are basically mongoloids but they dont exactly look like chinese nor like coreans because they evolved under different living conditions throughout thousands of years, and such conditions shaped them in determined ways, the most northern goups and the most southern amerind groups in the hemisphere were actually big ppl, the tehuelches from Patagonia were very tall people and it was not rare to find individuals that surpased the 6`4" among them, such heigh and body mass wasnt due to european admixtures tho.

I can't talk for all of them but every single tall Samoan and Tongan I've met claimed to have some European ancestry. Tallest and biggest Samoan guy I know openly saying all of his family big sized strictly due to a German ancestor some 2-3 generations ago. Good example would be The Rock, half-Samoan half-Canadian.

As for Maoris there are simply no purebloods left among them, they are all mixed with Europeans to some degree.
