They were probably trying to explain that if Nina Davuluri had competed for Miss India in India, she would have been considered dark and ugly. America is more lenient on these things, and India seems to want all the Aishwarya Rai lookalikes to win Miss India. A lot of Lebanese people said the same thing about Rima Fakih when she won Miss USA in 2010, that she would have been considered too dark and ugly for Miss Lebanon, and that the makers of the Miss Lebanon competition would rather a Nancy Ajram type win.

What people are angry about is not the fact that this woman didn't deserve to win, regardless of her race-- maybe she did-- but because of the obvious disadvantage white women have in contests like this.

I couldn't care less who won the silly contest, but it's a bit annoying when year after year, white Christian women are passed over in favor of minorities who happen to match the current racial/cultural trend of the moment. It's ridiculous to call it a beauty contest when it is nothing more than a liberal propaganda machine.

Many of my ancestors were here before the the nation was even formed, does that count as "Native American?" I firmly believe that existing citizens should have a say in who can come here, without being labelled a racist, and that our nation should cater to it's existing citizens over immigrants.

could be, but that doesnt mean she is white or looks white or unusual for india, many indian girls can share affinity with western beauty ideals middle eastern girls even more and others too i guess also blacks etc.

In America probably yes it is still a majority white country, also around the world on international stage since western civilisation is dominant but locally in some parts of the world it might be different. I judge her by my own beauty standards and she is pretty to me. Maybe it is a "white standard" i dont know
