Moscow, Saint Peterburg and some other places are clearly ahead of the rest of the country, but overall, Russia remains a near 3rd world place with poor medical care, horrible roads, completely corrupted police and so on.


the British used to say "the problem of Russians is that they are white, if they were coloured, we would have shown more understanding for their country and nation".

Russia is a third world country in far worse shape in Mexico imo. The only thing that Russia has in its favor is the attractiveness of the females but thats it. but even then, russia is still a shithole, no matter what RP says.

Well Moscow and some places are clearly between first and second world, but the fact that these regions get such a disproportional amount of money is 3rd world by itself

what also really surprised me is this story:

Pavel Durov, the creator of vkontakte (a copy of fb), was asked by the FSB (ex KGB) to close some opposition groups on his site. He refused and his is the story from wiki

There appeared to be no immediate repercussions, but then in April of 2013, Durov was accused of hitting a traffic policeman with his car, with a video of the alleged incident appearing online.
On April 16, VKontakte's main offices in central St. Petersburg were searched by police. Durov, who denies even owning a car, fled the country and has not been seen in public since. [

Russia is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. Country with multitude of billionaires and at the same time extreme poverty. Modern Russia has reached the late 1800's again. Extremely wealthy 5% upper class dances in their million€ penthouses and live champagne-bubbling extravaganza, while some 20 million Russians live below the poverty-line. That's recipe for destruction. If Russia is not able to create stable, wealthy middle class, things will go south very soon. Current Russian definition of middle class is pretty much joke, only 8.2% of Russians earn more than 1400$/month.
