I have been reading a little about Central Asian Shamanism, also known as Tengrism after the Turko-Mongol sky god. It will be interesting to read this book. I'm sure Germanic shamanism is part of the continuum or at least has some influences.

”The Viking Way: Religion and War in the Later Iron Age of Scandinavia” by Neil Price deals with the meaning and function of magic in the pre-Christian Scandinavian society constantly geared for war and the connection and similarities of seid to Central Asian and Sami shamanism. A must read for anyone interested in Odin and seid.
