A little along the same lines: I have an autobiography written by an ancestor from the Civil War. Back then, my family owned slaves. The slaves were treated very well and were basically part of the family. My 4-5xG grandmother was raised by her wet nurse-- not her mother. She nursed from her breast, called her Mammy and loved her as she would her own mother. In the South in those times, a lot of white families would hire black nurses to raise their children.
