I just want to apologise to Humanophage for some of my posts in this thread. He has every right to criticize Putin if he so wishes, it is freedom of expression.

I also express my point of views, but as a fellow member it should be seen, not in an admin capacity.

It should be noted that the President of Russia is not affiliated to any political party:

Not a big fan of United Russia myself, and I think Medvedev and Putin don't see eye-to-eye on many matters either.

There is probably more disparity policy wise between Obama and the Democrats than there is between Putin and United Russia.

AS I see it the problems for Putin to solve are,but not in a particular order:

    1. Raise the population numbers, without massive non-ethnic Russian immigration.
    2. Improve the economy. Bringing in needed foreign technology, without falling under foreign control.
    3. Reuniting all the West Russian lands and Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.Through confederation, union, whatever name they call it.
    4. Improve the health situation in Russia. Curbing runaway abortions and alcoholism. The second might be difficult since even in the Middle Ages Russians were renowned for drink. I think it was in the 9th century that the Grand Prince of Kiev was to have said, that Russians couldn't be Muslim because they loved to drink so much. But they can find a way I'm sure.
    5. Pass laws forbidding any foreign money being allowed to go to NGO's.And punish foreigners and Russians that seek to destabilize Russia.
    6. Reform the police/security forces to curtail crime.
    7. Revitalize the educational system to ween the youth away from the anti-Russian slant that the Yeltsin era allowed to come in.
    8. Encourage patriotic Russians to propagandize Russia's glorious past. Example, many youth have come under a western spell, where they look down on their own people and want to emulate other nations. Not realizing that all peoples are different. Not worse or better, but different. But even more distressing, are the so-called Nationalist neo-Nazi youth you see wearing Nazi German symbols and giving the Nazi salute. Do those people not realize that the Nazis despised Russians. They considered all Slav's but especially Russians as sub-humans. Had the Nazis won the war they planned to subject the Russians to the fate of the Jews in a Nazi Europe.
    9. Use Russia's natural wealth and hopefully growing economy to establish trading bonds with all her neighbors and especially in Europe.Strong bonds mean friendly relations.
    10. Bring peace and security to all the Caucasus region. Crush all terrorism there, and revitalize the region economically to ensure people have a stake in security.
    11. Continue to strengthen relations around the world with pro-Russian elements and governments.

Let’s not forget about the brain drain. Some estimates suggest that, after the collapse of CCCP, about 100,000 scientists have left Russia.

Among them - Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov - who received Nobel Prize in 2010 for experimental research of properties of graphene. Needless to say graphene is the key technology of the future.

Both were graduates of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, (МФТИ or Физтех, in Russian) which is one of the best Russian schools that prepares specialists in applied and theoretical physics. In Russia, МФТИ is also known as a school where one has to work hard to graduate. Here is how Andre Geim once described his years at МФТИ: “The pressure to work and to study was so intense that it was not a rare thing for people to break and leave, and some of them ended up with everything from schizophrenia to depression to suicide."

We cannot afford losing resources that Russia invests so heavily into. Putin indeed has a lot of work cut out for him.

Speaking about graphene, a monolayer derivative of graphite - China controls some 80% of the global graphite market. Approximately half of it is higher quality flake-based graphite.

So China is sitting pretty. It is rather amazing how various stars are lining up for China to cement its position as a number one economic power of the future.
