He didn't say he had tatar ancestry altough surname ending in "in" are usually of tatar origine.

That's what I thought, tatar surnames usually end in ev/ov/aev from what I know.

He looks a bit like Leonid Breznev, the Soviet leader.
He doesn't look Turkic but could be from one of these Finno-Ugric tribes.
Pretty much like Boris Yeltsin.

That's what I thought, tatar surnames usually end in ev/ov/aev from what I know.

Ok sorry I was wrong but it is because a lot of tatar or bashkir surnames end in in: sayfulin, nigmatulin, nabiulin...
But you are right there are a lot of ev/ov too: Shaimiev....
