He has a variation of a Galician surname (Acevedo is the Galician version but is often spelt Azevedo in the rest of Spain and apparently Portugal) that ruled over territory my mother's family is from. The Acevedo family was connected to the royal family of the kingdom of Leon through a daughter that married the king. That occurred in the early 10th century, I believe. I think it was the first time the family was mentioned. No longer one of the higher up noble families as the center of royal power shifted away from the north to the meseta.
