One of the most venomous spiders in the world lives in the surroundings of Sydney, Australia. The spider is capable to bite through garden gloves.

Hunstman Spider. The spider is living in warm climate hunting down other spiders. Their bites are harmless to humans.

Yes. I know these all too well. They are very common here and they like to live in people's houses - including mine. They survive when you suck them up with the vacuum cleaner - they just unfold when you empty the bag and keep on going. Very hardy.

And they screech. Yes, they actually make high-pitched screaming sounds. They somehow vibrate their abdomens against whatever they are sitting on and it makes a screeching sound. That is how they attract mates or react when you disturb them. Sometimes when you go outside at night and it's spider season, you can hear the screeching around you. It's a very, very creepy sound.

You know, I don't like spiders, but I don't hate them either. My father loves them, he has had tarantulas as pets before...

I have some sort of fobia for roaches and moths though, ewrgh!

Australians like this particular spider. People don't hurt or kill them. Some even call them pets. Huntsmen have have long legs running away from you fast. The spider hunts other spiders. That's probably how the spider got its name. Huntsmen visit peoples' houses and cars. They can be nuisance inside the car, as you are driving and it runs across the front window. ;)
But I didn't know they are making screeching sounds.

:pound:

This is exactly like my husband!

The last time we had a huntsman spider I was working night shift. I got this panicked phonecall at 4am at work, telling me there was a MASSIVE spider in the bedroom. The spider had settled on the lightbulb and when he switched the light on, this huge spider shadow of legs was cast all across the walls. When I got home he was sleeping on the couch hanging onto the cat for dear life.

Of course you would open it with a picture of the highly aggressive highly venomous cobalt blue tarantula. Not deadly though, but the pain is excruciating should you be bitten and those spiders don't allow themselves to be handled easily. They are also swift when and if they strike, and they are very easily provoked. Some people keep those as pets.

EDIT: Correction the fifth spider is one.

Whether you're a fan of spiders or not, you've gotta appreciate the art of macro photography.

Unlike regular photographs, these spiders have been captured using a technique known as "macro photography."

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/BN-DI368_0619sp_J_20140619150621-934x.jpg

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.07.32-PM-934x.jpg

This is when photographers use special macro lenses to zoom up on their subjects. In this case, it’s a bunch of hairy spiders.

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.06.47-PM-934x.jpg

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.06.13-PM-934x.jpg

Spiders can be incredibly difficult to photograph, causing a lot of blurriness. So, some photographers actually stitch multiple photos together in order to get a fully focused shot of the jumpy creatures.

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.05.56-PM-934x.jpg

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.05.35-PM-934x.jpg

As a result, these macro shots allow us to be more curious about our world—just look at the incredible detail of these arachnids.

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.04.34-PM-934x.jpg

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.03.46-PM-934x.jpg

Who knew they were so hairy, or quite so beautiful (yes, I said beautiful to describe a spider).

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-2.18.46-PM-934x.jpg

And while these spiders look like they’re posing for the camera, they’re incredibly restless, so the photographer needs as much patience as possible to produce these sorts of images.

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/BN-DI371_0619sp_J_20140619150621-934x.jpg

Thank goodness these are all magnified. These images are incredible, but definitely preventing me from sleeping tonight.

Wow! That's the first time I've ever seen a blue coloured spider! I find spiders fascinating and let the smaller ones run around my home as they make good hunters and I like them, but I wouldn't like to live near those big hairy ones with the huge fangs on them as they make me feel very on-edge.

Spiders are intriguing though; the strength of spider silk, they way they can built their webs and houses from birth, their sensitivities to vibrations, all their eyes and legs, and the way they can walk upside-down on ceilings where the heat rises and where they mostly hunt.

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.05.35-PM-934x.jpg

As a result, these macro shots allow us to be more curious about our world—just look at the incredible detail of these arachnids.

http://www.distractify.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads//2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-25-at-3.03.46-PM-934x.jpg

Aranha Branca "White Spider"

That's a very unusual looking spider! There's a lot of interesting pictures here of spider types I've never seen before. There's so many different varieties of spiders. Some of them look very elegant, whilst other look more menacing, but looks can be deceiving, because even some pretty little black widow spider can inject more venom than some big hairy tarantula.

Araneus gemmoides, commonly known as the jewel spider and cat-faced spider,
is a common outdoor orb-weaver spider found in the USA and Canada.
They are considered harmless and have low-toxicity venom.
A. gemmoides are useful natural predators for insects.

Two new, super cute species of peacock spider discovered in Queensland (video)

Spiders terrify most people, but two new species discovered in Queensland have many intrigued by their peculiar colours and shape.

Meet the peacock spider, two new species of which have recently been documented as being discovered in Queensland.

Maratus jactatu and maratus sceletus were found in the Wandul Range National Park, about 120km west of Toowoomba, by Madeline Girard, of the University of California, and a friend.

The pair have nicknamed the intriguing arachnids "Sparklemuffin" and "Skeletorus", because let's face it, Latin is a bit stodgy when it comes to describing creatures as fab as these cute little fellas.

New species of spider named after enchanted 'Harry Potter' sorting hat. Scientists in India have taken inspiration from J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series of books and movies in naming a distinctive new species of spider.

The triangular creature resembles the Hogwarts "sorting hat" that's used to place young wizards and witches into their respective school "houses." The spider has been named Eriovixia gryffindori, a nod to Gryffindor house, into which Harry Potter himself was sorted on his first day as a Hogwarts student.

"This uniquely shaped spider derives its name from the fabulous, sentient magical artifact, the sorting hat, owned by the (fictitious) medieval wizard Godric Gryffindor, one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry..." the report from the Indian Journal of Arachnology, said.

In response to the spider's naming, the woman who dreamed up the Harry Potter universe, author J.K. Rowling, tweeted: "I'm truly honored!"

18 new species of pelican spiders discovered

https://www.sciencenews.org/sites/default/files/2018/01/main/articles/011118_DG_pelican-spider_main.jpg
Despite their name, pelican spiders aren’t massive, fish-eating monstrosities.

In fact, the shy spiders in the family Archaeidae are as long as a grain of rice and are a threat only to other spiders.

Discovering a new species of these tiny Madagascar spiders is tough, but Hannah Wood has done just that — 18 times over.

How brightly colored spiders evolved on Hawaii again and again... and again

https://3c1703fe8d.site.internapcdn.net/newman/csz/news/800/2018/howbrightlyc.jpg

About 2 to 3 million years ago, a group of spiders let out long silk threads into the wind and set sail, so to speak, across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. These spiders were parasites of other spiders, invading their webs, snipping threads to steal insects that had been caught. But there weren't many webs to rob on Hawaii when they arrived. So they expanded their repertoire, looking for other ways to survive by trapping and eating other spiders. A new species evolved from those first spiders, after finding a way to live on rocks. And then another species evolved to live under leaves. And then another. And then 11 more species.

8 Facts About the Misunderstood House Spider

https://live.staticflickr.com/8517/8589068009_590f6d4da8_b.jpg

Spiders have shared our homes for centuries, and they can be model housemates.

July 15, 2020

If you have a house, you probably have house spiders. They might live in your attic, basement, or windowsills, or they might brazenly inhabit your houseplants. But despite their reputation as creepy interlopers, most house spiders haven't simply wandered away from home: Our houses are their natural habitats.

Some people think of spiders as insects, lumping them in with six-legged invaders like roaches or ants. But they're not insects, and they don't want to raid our cupboards. Much like their outdoor relatives that eat crop pests, house spiders just want to quietly kill the insects that do covet our food. If anything, they're on our side.

As a kid, I brought home tarantulas and scorpions from the hills near house. Mom loved it!

Finding a forever home for trafficked tarantulas

When wildlife authorities confiscate smuggled animals, the next step is figuring out what to do with them.

Sep 18, 2020

It’s a new day for a giant, hairy spider known as Lil’ Kim.

Things didn’t start well for her and 249 other baby tarantulas. The spiderlings were confiscated by United States Fish and Wildlife Service inspectors as part of a wildlife trade bust at Seattle–Tacoma Airport, in Washington State, in December 2018. The babies were so small that they’d been packed in deli cups and 35 mm film canisters.

Ogre-Faced Spiders Can Hear With Their Legs, Study Finds

Oct 30, 2020

Just in time for Halloween, scientists at Cornell University have published some frightening research, especially if you're an insect!

The ghoulishly named ogre-faced spider can "hear" with its legs and use that ability to catch insects flying behind it, the study published in Current Biology Thursday concluded.

"Spiders are sensitive to airborne sound," Cornell professor emeritus Dr. Charles Walcott, who was not involved with the study, told the Cornell Chronicle. "That's the big message really."

I don't have an arachnophobia myself but I've never desired owning a spider. Apparently there are people who almost faint at the sight of a still picture of a spider.

Joro spiders likely to spread beyond Georgia

https://news.uga.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Spider1-2048x1366-1-810x540.jpg

New research suggests the spiders could colonize the entire East Coast

If you live in Georgia, it’s hard not to notice the state’s latest resident.

The bright yellow, blue-black and red spiders’ golden webs will be all over power lines, in trees around town and even on your front porch come summer.

The Joro spider first arrived stateside around 2013 and has since spread across the state and Southeast. But new research from the University of Georgia suggests the invasive arachnids could spread through most of the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S.

There’s really nothing we can do to stop them. But that’s not necessarily bad news.
