Yes, I thought he looked like a Moroccan Jew as well (reminds me a bit of Gad Elmaleh). I saw his name recently in a publishing of top 10 richest men in Africa. I looked him up to see if he had a Jewish background, since some Muslim families in Fes have Jewish origins. But apparently not, the family claims descant from the prophet through Moulay Idriss. There are many families (even Berber speakers) around Fes and Northern Morocco who claim descant from the prophet through Moulay Idriss.

Yeah the major majority was Berbers converted to judaism, before the arrival of Sephardic jews from Iberian peninsula.
