View Full Version : What is your most defining physical trait.

I would say mine is my nose, but many people say I have very large eyelashes. The reason why I say my nose because it is very large yet thin. It looks kind of like a thin rectangle. From a profile view though, you can see how long it is. Other than those two, I am exceptionally swarthy in my area, but not for a European in general. Other than that, I am pretty plain. :) Also, I can already see some of the things people are going to say to try to be funny. :D

I've noticed that you are Celto-Germanic. I've always considered curly hair a very Celtic and more specifically a Cro-Magnoid trait. "Jewfros" are more thickly coiled. Sometimes they are even more coiled than the hair of some Sub-Saharan Africans. :)

Yeah it is a very common term among my generation. They always kid around with this one kid, who is of Irish descent, and has very thick curly dark brown/black hair. They say he has a "Jewfro". I tell them that it looks more Celtic to me, and he is probably a good representation of the "original" Celtic population in Ireland. I also mention how they would know a "Jewfro" when they see it. They tell me that I ruin all the fun and laugh. :D

Ok. you confirmed what i thought.

You see.......tha fact your eyes gained so much success and "admiration" amoongst the peoples around you, means that they looked somewhat "exotic" for the Iberian/Portuguese commonest standard.

It' easy to understand, from the comment you report, how the compliments about your eyes are linked to their colour. A light colour. Something rare enough (in a typical Iberian envronment) to get the attention of the observer.

In Estonia or Latvia or Finland (where 90% of population is light eyed) probably your eyes would have got LESS attention/compliment than they got in Portugal. It would be considered normal.

That´s true in part, but remember that green eyes like Alex ones are not that common anywhere. In Finland or Latvia most of the people have blue eyes.

I have very light eyes in the sun, yellow-hazel looking, not very common... they arose the same interest in Iberia or abroad...

On a different note, in Spanish literature dark eyes have been traditionally more praised than light eyes, and light eyes, which are less common than brown eyes here, are seen with a pinch of distrust.

Hmmm. I suppose my eyes. I'm often told I have 'kind eyes' - I have fairly long eye-lashes and my eye-colour can be quite 'golden'. I suppose that's what people refer to.

People often refer to my darkish brown hair as black. It really annoys me, too.

I have no idea what my most distinguishing feature is. Perhaps my eye, or hair colour. My hair is definately a dark brown, but despite that, It hardly looks brown at all - a more charcoal sort of browny colour, that when caught in the light looks really light brown and fair... Hard to explain really. Is there such a thing as fair dark hair?
Urm, my eyes are kind of distinguishing too - they're just a hazel, but like my hair, the differences in light are quite large. There's hardly any brown, only a small ring around the iris, and the rest of the eye is green - but a very, very dark green - unless caught in the right light, in which it can appear pale.

Strange I have inherited such dark hair and eye colouring though: my father has very pale blue/grey eyes and light brown hair, and both my grandfather and grandmother on his side have blue/grey eyes, with the grandfather being dark haired and the grandmother being very pale blonde.
My mother has hazel eyes and dark hair, so I assume I picked my hair and eye colour up from her - my grandfather on her side is light brown haired and green eyed, and my grandmother hazel eyed and very dark haired.

Wow! I could almost have written that - that's how closely it applies to me and my parents/grandparents. Scary. My hair too is a dull, dark brown which appears quite fair in the light. I think it's to do with the thickness. I believe my individual hairs to be almost medium-brown, but when layered together, the combined transluscence and volume of hairs creates the illusion of dark hair. My eyes also have a dark outer ring with the area inside being a very greenish hazel colour, again depending on the light. My father has grey eyes, my mother brown. My father's parents were both blue-eyed whilst my mother's father has blue eyes and her mother brown.

Why?

Just because my hair isn't black!
I wouldn't mind if it where black, but it isn't even nearly. Admittedly, from a distance, it can look black... But for someone to be close enough to tell me that my hair is black, they're also close enough to notice that it certainly isn't. :p

Scyldwulf
11-18-2009, 01:28 PM

That sums me up entirely, and I'd say that my individual hairs are nearly a medium brown too - some of them even lighter than that, and every so often I'll spot a ginger one: but that's quite common I believe

Yeah it's nothing to do with any Nordicist sentiment, in case that's what you're thinking. Like Scyldwulf, I wouldn't mind if my hair actually was black. It'd be like someone here on The Apricity consistently mis-spelling your username and referring to you as "Tabti". It'd start to annoy you after a while.

My eyes, they're rather "dark" compared to other Estonians(only blue and gray eyes). I have light green eyes, but people who don't look into them call my eyes gray :grumpy:. I can trace my green eyes back to my non-Estonian ancestors, Estonian Swedes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonian_Swedes).

When women notice that I have green eyes, then they quite like them. As eye colors except blue and gray are rare here.

Then the 2nd trait is my height.
