As a great many of you ought to know, Otzi the Iceman (who was discovered and thawed out of his icy prison in the early 1990's), is one of the oldest naturally-preserved mummies, found in Tyrol. Apparently, his closest living genetic relatives are the average Sardinian individual.
This intrigues me some. What is the relation, to you folk? Some shared ancestry which Sardinians were isolated enough to preserve?
Furthermore, do we think Otzi was fairly typical genetically to other old Alpine folk?

He is the closest relative to contemporary Sardinians by comparison of various genetic scores, also going by his paternal and maternal line.

He isn't so genetically(autosomally) close to other Alpine folks.
And even though some alpine folks possess similar paternal line (y-dna G) ,his particular paternal line(G2a4?) is pretty rare anywhere, got replaced by newer stock of G and completely different lines. He has some genetic matches, they are just not common as they used to be in the past.
