Metspalu study done recently on populations from Central Asia, this time round including the ethnic groups within Afghanistan atlast

It seems the closest populations to afghan Pashtuns as well as afghan Tajiks are, Iranians, Turks, Caucasians as well some central Asians.

Second link shows the admixture graphs for all populations

The Kalash are a good example of how a population with heavy genetic drift behaves in Fst and admixture tests. Kalash are Fst-wise more distant from every population than the populations most similar to them are. Their admixture also changes from a mix into a drift component at K9, another characteristic of isolated populations. Sardinians often do that too, but not here, showing up as 50% Middle Eastern (peaks in Bedouins) 50% European instead at K9.
