Okay, the question pertains to the concept of soup in general, not a specific kind of soup.

I am curious because I am a sucker for soup (hot, liquid nourishment, especially in the winter time :p) but I know a good number of people who hate the idea of eating something liquid, mashed, or whatever you may call it.

So do you like soup? Specify which if possible :p

(I love lentil soup, bean soup, fish soup, salmon soup, tomato soup, etc..)

I like soup very much. I often eat soup every day.
Borscht and cream vegetable soups are my favorite, especially mushroom, potato and bean ones.

I have a very high metabolic rate and eat a lot of food as a result; soup frustrates me with how slowly it must be eaten when doing so politely.

I do enjoy it, though. I'm one of the least fussy eaters you'll ever meet.

Anything from a simple consommé to jellyfish and vinegar broth with fish eyes.

Yes, I like soup a great deal. I just made a huge pot of split pea soup today with lots of carrots. I recently sampled sauerkraut soup and pumpkin soup and enjoyed them both!

I love making my own bone broth as it makes the best soup. I love also making stews, especially at this time of year! :)

A special dish, yes, but real. It's the standard sort of Cantonese vinegar broth - as one might see in Shark fin soup - with long strands of jellyfish meat shredded to be like noodles, and the bowl is peppered with wee tiny fish eyes about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen.

It was served as part of a very special celebration I attended, along with some other amazing dishes. Shark fin soup being among them.

I chose other, because I eat soup mainly in winter. One of my favourites is pumpkin soup that I make, with toast to dip in it. Yum!

I don't think much of soups, but there is one exception - borscht. That's one of my favourite dishes.

Yes! :thumb001: I love all kinds of Soups and probably could live off Soup if I had to. ;)

Sure I do, almost all of the most common kinds of soup:

Tomato soup (I like to add cottage cheese to it)

Pea soup (how do you know, as a foreigner, that you've lived in Finland for too long? Answer: Thursdays without pea soup start to seem like an impossibility). Served with rye bread, adding mustard and chopped onions is an option. Thursday pea soup is typically followed by a thick slice of oven-baked pancake and strawberry jam.

Creamy spinach soup. Poured over a hardboiled egg sliced in half.

Meat (beef) & potatoes soup. Enough said.

Onion soup, with croutons and grated cheese of course.

Salmon soup. I like both the creamy and the clear kinds.

However, my favorite type of soup of them all is a creamy soup made of Gyromitra esculenta, a delicious mushroom which Wikipedia tells me is known in English as "false morel".

Forgot Borscht, thanks, Tabiti. I like the hot kind. Cold Borscht is pretty absurd imo. I once made some with some elk meat added to it, turned out surprisingly well.

Potato soup with celeriac. RAWRRRR!
350 g potatoes
450 g celeriacs
1 big leek
10 dl water

You can either cut all the vegetables into small pieces and boil in the water, or fry the leeks in oil and add them just before serving.
When all the vegetables have become tender you can blend them. Some people add 2-5 dl of milk.
Season with salt and pepper.

it may sound freaky but I dont eat any soup at all. Actually I eat only rice, canned tuna and canned sweet corn mixed together every day, I mean it. Then drink mineral water and coffe with skimmed milk - no sugar. From time to time some meat and other food but really occasionaly. My daily routine is above mentioned mix. =And that is the best part: I like it this way. I consider myself not so choosy in field of eating so I have rather not much to tell about soups...when my wife make for herself a tomato soup sometimes I try some spoons - it's good but nutrition facts don't lie - there is a small amount of protein in there so soup could be taken as a appetizer eaten only for tasting purpose

Okróshka (Russian: окрошка) is a cold Russian national soup. The name probably originates from "kroshit'" (крошить) which means to chop or break into small pieces.

The classic soup is a mix of mostly raw vegetables (like cucumbers and spring onions), boiled potatoes, eggs and cooked beef or veal (or cooked sausages or ham) with kvass, the so-called bread drink, which is a mildly alcoholic beverage made from fermented black or rye bread. Okroshka is usually garnished with sour cream. Later versions that appeared in Soviet times use light or diluted kefir, mineral water, or even beer instead of kvass.

The ingredients are diced and then mixed with kvass just before eating; the ratio of chopped food to kvass is similar to that of cereal to milk. This allows the vegetables to retain their texture. For that same reason, even though the ingredients are similar to those in a Russian salad, the taste of okroshka is quite different from that of the salad.

Okroshka is sometimes served in summer because the soup combines the refreshing taste of kvass and the lightness of a salad. Salt and sugar can be added according to taste.

Solyanka (Russian and Ukrainian: соля́нка) is a thick, spicy and sour soup in the Russian and Ukrainian cuisine.
There are mainly three different kinds of solyanka, with the main ingredient being either meat, fish or mushrooms. All of them contain pickled cucumbers with brine, and often cabbage, salty mushrooms, smetana (sour cream) and dill. The soup is prepared by cooking the cucumbers with brine before adding the other ingredients of the broth.

For meat solyanka, ingredients like beef, ham, sausages, chicken breasts, and cabbage, together with salty mushrooms, cucumber pickles, tomatoes, onions, olives, capers, allspice, parsley, and dill are all cut fine and mingled with cream in a pot. The broth is added, and all shortly heated in the stove, without boiling.
Fish solyanka is prepared similarly, but soup vegetables are cooked with the broth. The meat is replaced with fish, like sturgeon and salmon, and freshwater crayfish. Finally, some lemon juice is added to the soup.
For mushroom solyanka, cut cabbage is heated in butter together with vinegar, tomatoes, and cucumber pickles, with little brine. Separately, mushrooms and onions are heated, and grated lemon skin is added. Cabbage and mushrooms are put in layers, breadcrumbs and butter added, and all shortly baked.
Solyanka is also popular in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR – East Germany), where it is commonly found in restaurants and available in canned form in grocery stores. (The German transliteration is Soljanka.) This practice stems from the era when Soviet troops were stationed in the GDR, and Soljanka was to be found on the menu at many East German restaurants.

I got up when the wife did this morning (4.45 AM local time) and made New England clam chowder to take to work. Those of us on staff who share a lunch period all brought "food that should be eaten in a bowl" (we're an odd bunch, I suppose). We try to have a shared, themed lunch once each month. Last month was "tailgating food."

All the ingredients were fresh other than the clams--living so far from the sea, freshness in seafood is just not going to happen. So, I tweaked the receipe so as to use high-quality canned clams and broth. The veggies, salt pork, milk, and butter were fresh, though. Bon appetit! :thumb001:

Soup, SOUP, wonderful S*O*U*P ! I LOVE it ! Beef soup, lentil soup, any kind of chicken soup, minestrone, mushroom soup, yellow split pea soup, green pea soup, leek soup. onion soup, New England [only] clam chowder, oyster stew, crab bisque, black bean soup, chili, "Scotch" broth ,miso soup, seaweed soup, tofu and spinach soup, tom ka gai, won ton soup, hot & sour soup, sopa de Alentejana, caldo verde, mulligatawny, gazpacho...........

In fact, the only soups I don't like are borscht [Sorry, but I hate beets.], Manhattan clam chowder (an abomination), and fruit soups.

Habitant Soupe aux Pois is the only canned soup I know of which is every bit as good as home-made. Of course, it wouldn't do any harm to put a ham bone and a few pieces of ham fat into the pot when warming it. ;)

I really don't like soup. Every now and then I get a taste for chicken noodle soup but I never eat it all ...

Like with stew I only like the meat and potatoes ..I never eat the vegetables out of it ...and I also don't like mixed vegetables, I like my vegetables separate:D

I do enjoy chili but I don't know if that counts as soup :p

Depends on the soup. I like shkembe chorba (tripe soup), supa topcheta or ball soup in english (vegetable soup with little meatballs in it), bean soup, chicken soup and tarator (cold soup made from cucumber, yoghurt, (cold) water, garlic and salt, you cold add walnuts and dill)

Hmm, I'm not a big soup person. It really depends on the individual soup because I find most soups don't have enough flavor (or the kind of flavors I enjoy). I also prefer having some texture in my food, so I prefer stews, chili, gazpacho with diced vegetables, and things like that.

I like to make a simple soup: chicken broth, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce and Pastina (little egg noodles stars), when the Pastina is done, whip in a couple of beaten eggs until they are cooked. Serve with some shredded Asiago on top.

And no.. the pea soup has to be made with all the traditional ingredients and accessories or bust and luckily my old granny and the mother of one of my flatmates know how to make it the traditional way.

I usually just chuck carrots, leeks, celery, tomato, onion and chicken necks into a pot, cover with cold water and bring to the boil. When the scum forms, I scoop it off, add a cup of cold water, and repeat until there's no more scum. I don't salt the stock until all the scum is gone.

Yes ... I love soup! I could eat it as a meal every day. Perfect with a nice hearty slice of bread, and when room permits, a small salad.

Favorites (homemade of course): French Onion, Butterball (w/ homemade chicken broth and egg angel hair pasta), Potato, Cream of Mushroom, Cheese Zucchini, Split Pea, Bean and Bacon, lentil, etc.

Put a pot with a pint of home made chicken stock on to boil with 1/2 c chopped, pre-cooked chicken in it. Added 1 1/2 T dehydrated mixed vegetables and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Let it come to a boil and simmer until the vegs were softened and then stirred in 1 c crushed Ramen noodles. 3 minute boil and they were cooked. Took it off the heat, 1 T grated Parmesan cheese as a garnish...

I really only like thick, creamy soups.. cheddar broccoli, cream of mushroom, potato soup are my favorites

Soup and I generally have no problems with each other. I'm not a frequent soup eater, though. Most of them aren't very filling, and I tend to cook them too hot, so then I have to either (a) wait for 10 minutes or (b) burn my tongue. I only really eat vegetable soup, chicken noodle, and tomato soup (with lots of milk in it).

I LOVE SOUP. I think it is the ultimate comfort food. I make homemade borscht sometimes (it's one of my absolute favorites), and recently I made split pea from scratch. Some of my other favorites are cream of mushroom and broccoli and cheese. I get in the mood to eat clear chicken broth sometimes, as well. At restaurants I tend to be fond of French onion and bisques (pumpkin, squash, tomato basil,or lobster).

I've decided I want to make Russian mushroom soup for Christmas eve. I'm always trying new recipes.

I hate soup, I have never liked the taste of it because its too liqudity and some of the flavors leave a bad taste on my mouth.

I am fond of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup(sshhh..don't tell my mother..McDonalds aren't supposed to like Campbell products..:D)

Ewww...that is like my least favorite soup...I don't even think Campbell's is real chicken noodle. :sick2:

For canned chicken noodle I would go with Progresso instead.

I have a new pet soup that I made up but is loosely patterned after a few Portugese soup recipes I've seen....it has chicken or turkey sausage (your choice), onion, garlic, cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, half n half, kale, collard greens, and cabbage....all spiced according to whatever I'm in the mood for. It's YUMMY.

Tomato soup is my favourite, I love it. :)

I found this really good fresh tomato soup recipe which I made a couple of months ago...I put about four or five whole tomatoes (not chopped) in with some chopped onion, chopped carrot, and chopped green pepper to add flavor, and covered with just enough cold water on top of the veggies. I cooked it on a low simmer for hours, until the tomatoes fell apart into little pieces on their own.

With enough salt, it's a very nice, simple soup.

You could also do half chicken broth/half water.

I LOVE soup!

I'll have to post a recipe I have for my famous 'beans and greens' soup later in the season, when it warms up enough to have some spring greens growing.
