One anomaly is that the Italian football team is pretty light-complexioned compared to previous years. Here is the team that won the 2006 World Cup (I think this team had more Southerners). Some of the players are already shown in the OP, so I shan't post them again:

Maybe...no can deny the fact that there are more northern italians in the national team than southerners. If you see, southerners usually play for lower division teams, as well seria a. At the moment, most successful players are from the North, Pirlo, balzaretti, giaccherini, Buffon, santon, inzaghi, etc....oh and how can I forget ac Milan and inter Milan!?

The Italians tend to be Dinaro-Med and Norid types, and look weighted toward north-central Italy phenotypically.

This one looks like a northern-southern mixture, or could pass as Jewish:

http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Marco+Verratti+Italy+Training+Session+Press+cRrW_3 6W0hzx.jpg

As for the Portuguese, mostly Atlanto-Med, South Med, and Cromagnid in varying proportions.

The only one who looks "East Med" and like a standard far southerner is Lorenzo Insigne.. but I know a few others are Campanian in this group. I don't know if there are any Sicilians other than the one who is also half Venetian and looks more Venetian.

Three posted by la vita among the 2006 World Cup roster are from Calabria (Gattuso- 2nd one in the 2nd row; Iaquinta- 2nd one in the 4th row; Perrotta- on the left in the final row).

The only Sicilian I can think of from recent times is Francesco Coco: http://www.fanphobia.net/uploads/actors/31290/francesco-coco.jpg

And Verrati, the one you said looks like a north-south hybrid, is from Abruzzo FWIW.

You want to know where you can find the more common Portuguese type? Or at least the ones I hang about and see on a normal bases.
In the youth academy's.
Most never make a career out of football.
The senior team It's a minority where even Brazilians,Cape-Verdeans,Gypsis play. Our League Is full of foreigners.
And even the youth team Is already highly Infiltrated.
A few examples.

Italians are lighter than the Portuguese, but not by much.

Italians: Mostly Norid, Nordo-Med, Dinaro-Med, CM (including Berid in Perrotta or Gattuso), Dinaric, Med.

Portuguese: Atlantid, Atlanto-Med, Berid, South Med, Gracile-Med.

Probably Tooting Carmen excluded him because his cape verdean partial ancestry is known. But he had no problems posting Cancelo.

I can't find any pictures or info of his parents, other that his father is called Joseph, and Cancelo's nickname was "Cigano". But he is alright to post and not Cristiano...

Is there any source that Cancelo is Gypsy? Or is it just pure speculation and conjecture?

Precisely.

Is there any source that Cancelo is Gypsy? Or is it just pure speculation and conjecture?

There is no source that he is gypsy like there isn't any source saying that he is fully portuguese. I also didn't say he was gypsy (i have no idea of what he is), his team mates in the youth teams were the ones who called him "gypsy" due to his appearence (this is googleable). So apparently i'm not the only one who thinks he looks off. I googled him now when i saw his thread and found out that his father is called Joseph so that's another hint that he might have other ancestry if his appearence isn't enough to have doubts.

I find that cycling doesn't attract these dark, ambiguous, possibly mixed types as well as blacks like football does so you can compare, since you obviously have doubts on how people look like here:
