The Wallensteins of Ponta Delgada, are the descendants of Gustavo Wallenstein, Consul of Germany in Ponta Delgada (1872-1922) married to Mariana Isabel Gago da Câmara Faria e Maia (who descends from the Mirandas of Bretanha).

Wallenstein was also an important general for the Catholic side of the Thirty Year's War. He was born into a Protestant family but later converted. Perhaps this fellow and niece is a descendant.

If Gustavo Wallenstein was, I don't know much about Germany.

Gustavo Wallenstein: Born in Hamburg on 9 Aug 1872. Gustavo married Mariana Gago Maia and had 8 children. He passed away on 17 Jan 1922.

He has a dinarid vibe, she is alpine. By the way, it's surprising that their surname hasn't vanished by now:

José Manuel Franco Wallenstein Teixeira
Catarina de Lemos Wallenstein Teixeira

He's Atlantid + Alpine and Sub-Nordid.

She appears Alpine and Sub-Nordid.

I'm not surprised, there are still quite a few Wallensteins in Ponta Delgada.

I discussed the above once with Alex on how unusual Portugal is compared to other nations when it comes to surnames being passed down.

I like it, I would have my father's boring surname if we followed the same rules as other countries.

That's changing. In Spain many people are dropping their father's surname if it's common like Fernandez for the less common surname of their mother if that's the case. I have a cousin who did that a few years ago and I had another cousin here in the states planning to do the same because government keep confusing him with two other guys with the same first and last name. He had to go to court more than once to show he wasn't the guy they were looking for but he decided not to after these issues suddenly stopped; either the state finally got their act together or the other guy is in jail. He also got a letter in the mail from California saying he owed child support because of confusion with his name. Apparently my cousin fathered one of the kids when he was nine years old, lolz.

I told him he should do it; my mother's surname is hella Galician. He's my mother's younger sister's son.
