Sitting at the computer or writing at my desk is killing my back!

You can switch to a standing desk!

Yes I know it... But, you know my great grandfather lived well into his hundreds, and it is rumored he was occasionally seen to sit..sometimes on chairs, stones, rocks, boulders, he was even partial to a certain tree stump legend says. My father it is rumored once saw the man to sit for well over 15 minutes... He won't confirm nor deny this fact till this very day, some secrets are just too personal. In truth I come from a long line of sitters, I would hate to break with family tradition in disdain of my ancestors.

It's nothing to do with calories, just blood sugar. High blood sugar is the worst thing you can have, and sitting causes it. Your body works as though you only have so much insulin you can use up before you die. Exercise helps a bit with that but not much.

At my work, we stand and lift heavy objects all day. Standing desk to go home to, looks like hell.

And I thought the problem of sitting was unhealthy backs/back pain and poor posture.

Well, it certainly is for me. I with a high metabolism and a not-so good appetite as well as lifting lots of heavy weights couldn't care less about calories.

I sit may ass all day at work, but the chair is very comfortable and I get up for walks. I also make up by standing up most of my time at home, I run 2 miles every other day and do exercise including lifting weights, I also home all kinds of work at home. During the non winter months I do a lot of work in my yard, which is a large yard. So all you need is to stay active. At my age I am in better shape than many teenagers.

I am quite active myself, I have acreage, gardens and animals to tend to, exercise, chase after children, hiking weekly, but I like to sit at my computer a lot too. I don't watch TV or play video games. I like standing instead of sitting at my computer, I find I get away from it easier that way too.

I have terrible posture and it was killing my back.

Well, they can kill the people sitting next to them, because the smell from sitting too long will overwhelm them.

While there certainly is some truth in it: Does anybody notice that this video promotes buying a certain product from a certain company just at the end of the video?
So all the told facts and exact effects are somewhat less credible to me.

Well as a computer scientist (who likes to sit all day long) and smoker, I think I'm fucked.

lol yes the video is selling their desk, still I think it's a great idea to sit less and I think it's unhealthy how much time people spend sitting.

All this sitting during my teens made me almost 2 meters tall.

Almost does'nt count, i know how it feels:pout::pout:

Although if you go to space you will grow by 3% due to lack of gravity
