He looks screamingly South Italian, and it is difficult to perceive him as anything else.

Maybe, but still South Italian before anything else by far.

Maybe, but he'd be atypical and darker-than-average.

The guy in that link, where does he pass best?
I don't think he is particularly dark.

Anyway after your comment I recommend we return to classifying the man I posted in this link, so we don't get too sidetracked :lol:

The Sicilian man posted in this thread?

I think typologically he is similar to a great many Jews, although there might be something distinct in his look due to recombination that marks him as southern Italian instead.
