View Full Version : Do you drink poison?

Anthropos

Coffee, I mean.

I put a tablespoon of dark roasted coffee powder in a paper filter in a regular old funnel. I heat water for a full cup (the amount depending on the size of the cup) plus water for the coffee (1½ dl). I pour it hot in the cup to make it really warm, pour it out and put one teaspoon brown sugar and a dash of rape seed oil in the cup before I put on the funnel and make the coffee with steaming hot water. I let it stand with the funnel on for 5 minutes or so before I drink it.

One cup in the same day is enough for me.

How do you make your coffee?

Yes i drink coffee now and again, i had a milky coffee yesterday night before i went to bed, it did not help me sleep, so last night i drank J/D with coke instead.
One heaped tea spoon of Nescafe and warm skimmed milk, no sugar.....ever.

Why rapeseed oil in yours, Anthro?

I find it balances the coffee... only a tiny dash, mind you... it makes the coffee less sour, as it appears to me. It tastes better.

Forgot to mention that I only ever drink my coffee black. I prefer dark roast, and only really drink regular coffee at home; while out, my standard order is a Red Eye or Black Eye before 10pm, Americano thereafter.

That sounds like it's worth trying!

I have a Krups drip coffee maker, uses conical filters.

For 10 cups (using filtered water) I add-in 12 rounded tablespoons of medium roast, 100% Colombian or Kona, medium-fine grounds.

My mug holds 16 oz, which includes 1/8 c each sugar and light cream.

Sometimes I'll sweeten my coffee with 1/4 c chilled maple syrup instead, no cream.

Flavorings I like from time to time include cinnamon, chocolate and hazelnut.

I drink coffee made in the Italian way at least 2 times per day.
I prepare it with this:

It requires just some pulverized coffee and water, is fucking easy and infact it's the only thing I'm good at the kitchen.

Coffee is super popular in Spain, specially since almost nobody drink tea like in central or north Europe. Many people have just a coffee for breakfast for example. So i´m an atypical spaniard because i´ve never liked it, redbull is my sustitute :p

This thread comes at a convenient time for me -- I've started drinking coffee again during the last week, after months and months of total caffeine abstinence.

I only drink coffee at work (although I think I have a jar of NesCafe at home somewhere for surprise visitors -- yum yum), and no more than two cups a day usually. Just the regular paper-filter mud that everybody in this country drinks.

And how do I like it? Lots of cream, lots of sugar.

Because coffee tastes so good.:)

Somebody once told me that the truth in digesting lots of coffee lies in the use of milk. Milk directly neutralizes the tannins which cause diarhea or increased stomach acid in the short run. Non neutralized tannins can also cause cancer in the long run for devote coffe and tea drinkers.

Whenever there is no milk available I always halve my amount coffee drinking, or use the double ammount of sugar.;)

Three or four cups of coffee per day for me, thanks. :)

Two in the early morning to get me going; 6AM--7:30AM, maybe one in the late morning; 11AMish and maybe one more in the mid-afternoon; 3PMish.

The latter two are much more flexible than are the early morning cups. Those are utterly critical at this point. ;)

Also, I take mine with milk and just a small spoonfull of sugar.

Similar to this, but without the honey and definitely without the soya milk! Not sure I'd ever want to try that. A drop of whiskey is nice, although I don't add it very often (if I'm drinking whiskey I prefer it straight).

Sometimes I'll add milk, though it's something I can go without, and I tend have between zero and three sugars, depending on my mood.

Since you are a woman, that is acceptable. I will even give a pass to young (under 30) men. But once a man hits 30, if he's still drinking syrupy "vanilla cappuccino" instead of real coffee, then he must wear an apron with little flowers all over it whenever he leaves his home.

I rarely make coffee at home and I don't drink as much as I used to, but when I do, I prefer a Costa Rican or Colombian blend. I used to add cream, but I have discovered a good quality coffee is much better black, though I will at times add a little raw honey. I usually get my coffee at Rocket Brothers, a local place here that's very good. Also, McDonalds coffee is surprisingly good, as is their Frappe mocha and caramel. I prefer black coffee of course, but these are really good on a hot summer day.

That's surprising to me. I always assumed Americans consumed the most coffee in the Western world.

Northern Europeans used to consume great quantities of alcohol because drinking water was not always safe. When coffee was introduced, the caffeine helped energize the population, and that led to higher productivity and advancement.

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Famous 18Th Century composer, harpsichordist, violist and violinist. Renowned for ecclesiastical and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo renditions. Bach liked coffee so much he immortalized it in his "Coffee Cantata" by writing for this musical piece "How sweet coffee tastes! Lovelier than a thousand kisses, sweeter than Muscatel wine!" and he also wrote" Without my morning coffee, I'm just like a dried up piece of roast goat."

Alexander Pope (1688-1744). 18Th Century English poet, satirist, who said about coffee, "Coffee, which makes the politician wise, and see through all things with his half-shut eyes."

François-Marie Arouet, better known by the pen name Voltaire, (1694-1778). Writer and philosopher famous for his wit. Built a reputation as a coffee lover by allegedly drinking 40 cups of coffee a day mixed with chocolate. Voltaire said about coffee, "Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity."

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790). One of the Founding Fathers of the United States. A leading author, printer, satirist, political theorist, politician, scientist, inventor and diplomat. Benjamin Franklin had high standards for his coffee, "If this is coffee, please bring me some tea; but if this is tea, please bring me some coffee." Another quote from Benjamin Franklin: "Among the numerous luxuries of the table...coffee may be considered as one of the most valuable. It excites cheerfulness without intoxication; and the pleasing flow of spirits which it occasions...is never followed by sadness, languor or debility."

Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778). Philosopher, writer and composer of the 18Th century enlightenment age. Rousseau said about coffee, "Ah, that is a perfume in which I delight; when they roast coffee near my house, I hasten to open the door to take in all the aroma."

Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826). The 3rd President of the United States of America. Principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson deemed coffee "the favorite drink of the civilised world." Jefferson enjoyed the coffee houses of Williamsburg and Paris. He served coffee often at the President's house, Poplar Forest, and Monticello.

John Paul Jones (1747-1792). He was the first well-known United States naval fighter in the American Revolutionary War. He was a frequent patron at the Procopé, opened in 1686. This is one of the oldest cafés and restaurants in Paris still in operation. Procopé was the meeting place for intellectuals, writers, poets, artists, revolutionaries and other "enlightened" personalities. Procopé served coffee, a somewhat exotic beverage at the time. John Paul Jones was known for saying, "I have not yet begun to fight!" After such exclamation, he would often drink coffee with delight.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832). German writer and polymath. Goethe was a person known for his expertise in a significant number of different subject areas. Goethe was a personal friend of Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge who was able to isolate relatively pure caffeine from coffee beans in 1820. Goethe had an interest in decaffeinated coffee to reduce insomnia symptoms. Goethe, who was an enthusiastic coffee drinker, once said, "Enjoy when you can, and endure when you must."

Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821). Masterful soldier, tactician, superb administrator, Emperor of the French, said about coffee, "I would rather suffer with coffee than be senseless."

George Gordon Byron, also known as Lord Byron (1788-1824). British poet and leading figure in Romanticism who said about coffee, "Tis pity wine should be so deleterious, for tea and coffee leave us much more serious."

Benjamin Moseley (1789-1819). English Physician who said about coffee, "The use of coffee will probably become greatly extended - - as in other countries, it may diffuse itself among the mass of the people, and make a considerable ingredient in their daily sustenance."

I don't drink coffee. It's unhealthy and tastes bad.

The title puzzled me...:rolleyes2:Why coffee should be treated as "poison"?
Personally I drink a lot of coffee, black,no sugar, but never instant coffee.

Coffee is not poison.I use about one heaped teaspoon of ground coffee with boiled water.
I drink both plenty of coffee and beer.

Yes around 4/5 cups a day.
First thing in morning i have to have one it wakes me up.Then I drink more during the day.
I just use instant coffee this is my favourite and add 2sugars and lots of milk.

Coffee is not poison.I use about one heaped teaspoon of ground coffee with boiled water.
I drink both plenty of coffee and beer.Boiled water on ground coffee is the biggest sin when it comes to making a good coffee...

The boiling water will burn the coffee leaving it with hardly any taste to it.

The right warm water temp should be 73C to max 85C...

I will recommend something strong, instant coffee (Nescafe) mixed with Coke instead of water. Poison with poison. :) Do not over do ! :)You're an idiot...

Forgot to mention that I only ever drink my coffee black. I prefer dark roast, and only really drink regular coffee at home; while out, my standard order is a Red Eye or Black Eye before 10pm, Americano thereafter.

That sounds like it's worth trying!

I also prefer my coffee black. I drink too much coffee. It really is a borderline poisonous level in my case.

Used to drink a ton of energy drinks. That's pretty much poison. Glad I realised how shit that is..
