I can't count the number of years it has been since a McD's burger went in my piehole. I hated those nasty things even when I was a little kid LOL

KFC is just.....wrong.

You just broke my heart. I could eat yardbird for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They get all their chicken from Tyson. I HATE Tyson for the way they treat their poor animals....and farmers too even. Plus KFC is just gross.

I'd rather make my own oven fried chicken. Have perfected a recipe over the years. Beats KFC by about a few lightyears. It's not *fried* either, but tastes like it is :tongue_002:

Oh my... People eat the grossest things, but we have such a range and multiculture in the UK that no-one needs to eat the old nasty stuff any more, like, bread and "dripping", or pork lard... Stuff like that. The UK's cuisine has gone Mediterranean as holiday-goers have come back from Spain and Greece and brought their favourite food habits back with them.

Worst drink... The most disgusting thing I can think of this is crap in a can:

I like it all: baked, fried, cold, you name it. The colonel was a saint for bestowing such a delicious national treat on his countrymen. The frontier or slave woman, who first fried chicken, deserves a special place in Heaven! I forgive your error in judgment on this particular culinary issue.;)

According to the Alabama law firm suing Taco Bell—only 36% of it's "beef" is actually beef. Thirty-six percent. The other 64% is mostly tasteless fibers, various industrial additives and some flavoring and coloring. Everything is processed into a mass that actually looks like beef, and packed into big containers labeled as "taco meat filling."
Pretty bad...

"Kumis, also spelled kumiss or koumiss in English is a fermented dairy product traditionally made from mare’s milk. The drink remains important to the peoples of the Central Asiansteppes, of Huno-Bulgar, Turkic and Mongol origin: Bashkirs, Kalmyks, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Mongols, Uyghurs, and Yakuts. It is also consumed by Baltic Hungarian tribes."

You can find it mentioned on Wiki also.

No, you don't get it. There are no such thing as "Baltic Hungarians". Thats like saying "Arctic Spaniards". On Wikipedia for example there is no mention of Hungarians under this article.

Maybe some Hungarians who imported this from Central Asia drink this, but it is not part of Hungarian food or Central European food.

Your logic is as foolish as saying "human flesh is most disgusting food in Iberia because some serial killing canibals eat it"

I could keep posting articles on and on that mention this drink in connection to Hungary it's very easy you only need to google Kumis or Koumis + Hungary and hit enter...
Anybody can do it for themselves.. I don't wish to argue and derail my thread though so I'll just let you know I didn't mean any harm by the mention of it! Thanks for your contribution to the thread though you confirmed it is not a mainstream thing in Hungary :)

I believe you, it is what I found online on many web sites For example here: http://mek.oszk.hu/02700/02790/html/91.html

The only reference to horses in that article is

The milk of cows and sheep have the greatest importance in the diet of the Hungarian peasantry. A few sources also mention the drinking of horse milk, but in the historical period under discussion we know of only rare occurrences of this earlier practice.

Some of the foods that modern society considers disgusting are some of the most nutritious.

For example, brains, liver, kidneys, heart are considered disgusting by most people where i live, but the same people will gladly indulge in high-fructose corn syrup and soy-laden sweets which apparently aren't disgusting, but nutritionally are just plain filth compared to nutrient dense offal.

I remember once my grandmother held a party for my 6th birthday where she made actual real food, roast beef sandwiches with salad. Most of the children found it disgusting because their incompetent parents raised them on donuts and other trash.

I was raised on real unprocessed, food that is very delicious. The entire Mediterranean region is that way, but nutrition aside in every culture there is at least one thing that is eaten that just seems bizarre as it is not pleasing to all 5 senses.

We Hungarians are in a very good situation. The Southern European (Italian), the Central European (south German), the Eastern European (Slavic), the Balkanic and Turkic (Ottoman) and the Hungarian (steppic) cuisine meet at us with the European high cousine. So the Hungarian cousine has many exotic foods because of this. But this is disgusting for every stranger:

I forgot the bad stuff. McDonald's ,Burger King, KFC,Taco Bell and pretty much all the similar fast food joints. It's not the bits used to make the food part, it's way it's made and sizes served.
There is not much I don't like, I'll eat almost anything that's made right and will go out on a limb and try stuff I've never had. About being diverse here in Murka, within a 30 miles circle of my home I can probably get 40 types of cuisine from all round the world. And I mean the real stuff, not like Taco Bell's 'Mexican' which is really Tex-Mex, Plus there's a good number of world wide food, spice, herbs and specialty items close by so I can cook with wild abandon at a given minutes notice. Fusion is my cooking style mostly, a meal could be made up using maybe Croatian, Moroccan,Cajun,Spanish and/or French recipe or parts of recipes in any which-a-way.

Eaten as food for survival in ancient times, dog flesh, later came to assume the status of food for adventure-eating. Eating the dog flesh is considered forbidden by Jews and Muslims.Bosintang( Korean soup), Suyuk( Korean dish), Thit Cho( Vietnamese dish), Jeongol( Korean spiced dog dish) and stewed dog flesh( Chinese) are some of the popular dishes made with the meat of dog.

History of Dog Meat as a Food
Many of the historical anecdotes suggest the tradition of eating dog flesh may have started in East Asia. It was found that food preparations made up of flesh of dog was regularly consumed in various parts of China during the 500 BC. Some historical anecdotes debate that the tradition might have started in the Southeast Asian country of Philippines. The Filipinos believed that sacrificing the dog was the only way of appeasing gods. They believed that their agonies will vanish after consuming the flesh of the sacrificed dog. Later Philippines became one of the few countries in the world to commercialize the dog meat. Today dog flesh is served in many of the restaurants and public markets around Baguio City of Philippines.

It is lamb's liver wrapped in caul fat from around the kidneys. They add coriander, onion, salt and Worcestershire sauce. The whole thing is then fastened with a toothpick and grilled over an open fire until the fat is crispy. Probably not that bad if you're into liver, but I'm not.

Not sure if unhealthy, but certainly disgusting.

Casu marzu (also called casu modde, casu cundídu, casu fràzigu in Sardinian language, or in Italian formaggio marcio, "rotten cheese") is a traditional Sardinian sheep milk cheese, notable for containing live insect larvae. It is found almost exclusively in Sardinia, Italy.
Derived from Pecorino, casu marzu goes beyond typical fermentation to a stage most would consider decomposition, brought about by the digestive action of the larvae of the cheese fly Piophila casei. These larvae are deliberately introduced to the cheese, promoting an advanced level of fermentation and breaking down of the cheese's fats. The texture of the cheese becomes very soft, with some liquid (called lagrima, from Sardinian language for "tear") seeping out. The larvae themselves appear as translucent white worms, about 8 millimetres (0.3 in) long.[1] When disturbed, the larvae can launch themselves for distances up to 15 centimetres (6 in). Some people clear the larvae from the cheese before consuming while others do not. The cheese, along with one of its Sardinian makers, Giovanni Gabbas, received attention on Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. Zimmern described the taste of the cheese as "so ammoniated" that "...it scorches your tongue a bit." The cheese is known to leave an aftertaste for a duration of up to several hours.[2]

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/36/Casu_Marzu_cheese.jpg/800px-Casu_Marzu_cheese.jpg

In general I tend not to be a cheese person anyway. In fact, I hate cheese and this one hits the top.

The most disgusting thing is not what you eat but how they are killed. Land snails are kept in salty water for weeks and then they are boiled when they are still alive and you see them trying to escape. Eels are cut when they are still alive in Naples. In my region they are first banged on the floor, then cut, otherwise they continue to move when they are already cut. Same with octopus.

According to the vendors, frying scorpions neutralizes their poison. The tail, ironically, is the most nutritious part.

TCM masterpiece "Compendium of Materia Medica" (written in the 16th century) promoted scorpion as a precious ingredient, with such medicinal values reducing pain and promoting the circulation.

Fried scorpions at the market come in both adult and baby varieties. The adult ones have a black glaze and the babies are smaller and more transparent.

Both taste a lot like greasy popcorn with a buttery aftertaste.

Some vendors top the delicacy with a bit of chili powder.

Don't know if anyone posted this one yet: Lutefisk. It's a disgusting thing my Norwegian relatives eat sometimes. Aged cod soaked in lye for three months. It has a gelatinous texture and smells like death warmed over. It makes me nauseated.

Lutfisk is a common Christmas dish in Sweden aswell. Tastes quite good though, IMO.

I have been given the go ahead from one of our esteemed Portuguese Users to post the following food for Portugal.
A r r o z D e C a b i d e l a
Blood, Chicken, and Rice.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ruUoPP4T-NI/TF0tOmcZEDI/AAAAAAAAAOY/PPhzT2Jjvys/s1600/DSCF2762.JPG
“ARROZ DE CABIDELA”
Recently a tourist reported an experience at a restaurant in a Portugal Pousada where a waiter explained what the “arroz the cabidela” listed on the menu was like. He correctly described it as rice soaked in chicken’s blood, and the facial expression of the tourists reacting to that description must have surprised the waiter because he quickly added “with chicken!” as if that made it sound any better. Yes, it’s a bloody good delicacy if you’re familiar with it, but for anyone hearing about it for the first time, it’s understandably disgusting. And the cooking process is even more disturbing: After the chicken is killed, it hangs upside-down for the blood to be drained out. It’s then added to the meat when it’s cooking, giving the dish a brownish color.

Keyword: 'some'. They are not mainstream traditional dishes and either way I've had the chance of eating some fried crickets at a bug fair here in Los Angeles and they weren't bad at all. People have too many spooky preconceived notions of certain delicacies it often becomes a taboo and they let the fear keep them from trying certain things.

Yes but that is exactly what makes it a perfect contribution for this Thread. The point of this thread is not to post the most commonly eaten disgusting foods. Simply the most disgusting, or better stated "Strange" foods eaten in your country. Therefore for Mexico I would include insects.

Right, but you just said yourself. "People have too many spooky preconceived notions of certain delicacies it often becomes a taboo and they let the fear keep them from trying certain things." In reference to the insects. That is exactly what makes them a perfect inclusion in the thread the fact that they are not common, or pleasing to all 5 senses in the traditional regard. Not exactly. I personally don't find them disgusting which is why I didn't post them. Either way 'fried insects' are not exclusive to any one country. It would be like taking fried chicken and claiming that is a Mexican creation. Let's pretend for example, that fried excrement laced with human blood became a dish favored on a small-scale by a religious cult in the U.S. Would that mean that this cult represents the culinary tastes of all Americans? I don't think so. Just because a small minority eats fried insects doesn't mean that it is a part of our culture. With that kind of logic I could post a picture of a placenta and claim that it is a disgusting thing that Americans eat.

Thats not quite tue.... Eating Insects is actually very traditional in some parts of Southern Mexico. It has been that way since pre columbian times you can look it up yourself online. Here are some links.

Crickets and beetle larvae I also tried, crickets taste like nothing, you have to pour them with spicy sauce. I tried beetle larvae milkshake once 4 the muscles.

I've tried them only with salt (no spices). They aren't much different from shrimps, only better.

Well Crustaceans in a way are water insects so that doesn't surprise me too much...

The idea was to post foods you found disgusting. I already told the OP that fried insects aren't disgusting and yes I've tried them.

Well, I guess there's nothing that I know that truly scares me or I find truly disgusting, locally. I can see how fried grasshoppers could be considered as disgusting by some foreigners though.

No the idea is to post food that you or others may find disgusting, or bizarre in a way from your country. I maybe didnt make it clear enough though! :)

I have wanted to contribute to this thread since it's inception but to be honest, I cannot think of anything that I have tried and truly hated. Maybe I am too lenient, but find a way to extract some good from all things the things I have tried thus far. :)

It's placenta. Some people in the U.S. eat it and I find it disgusting and I believe others might too.

Huitlacoche- Corn smut

I personally don't think the idea of it is all that bad, but it can look pretty nasty to some.

Chitterlings! (chit-linz, as they're commonly pronounced around here)

United States

In the United States, chitterlings are part of the African American and Southern culinary tradition commonly called "soul food."

Chitterlings are carefully cleaned and rinsed several times before they are boiled or stewed for several hours. A common practice is to place a halved onion in the pot to mitigate what many regard as a very unpleasant odor that can be particularly strong when the chitterlings begin to cook. Chitterlings sometimes are battered and fried after the stewing process and commonly are served with cider vinegar and hot sauce as condiments.

In colonial times, hogs were slaughtered in December. When slavery was practiced in America slave owners commonly fed their slaves as cheaply as possible. At hog butchering time, the best cuts of meat were kept for the enslavers and the remainder, such as fatback, snouts, ears, neck bones, feet, and intestines, given to the enslaved people.[9]

In 2003 the Smithsonian Institution's Anacostia Museum and Center for African American History and Culture accepted the papers of Shauna Anderson and her business, The Chitlin Market, as part of its emerging collection of materials about African American celebrations, foods and foodways.[10]

They're not unique to black Americans, and are apparently quite common throughout the world. I have never tried them; I shall go to my grave without having tried them.

(Liver) hash and rice, however:

This stuff is good, although many people are turned off by it, especially damn Yankees like my mom :D It's traditionally made with liver, and other parts of chickens and pigs that are typically less than appetizing, but I think a lot of it, at least what's produced commercially, is made from more recognizable parts.

Agreed! I don't see how people can eat such a thing!! I rather eat my toe, attend a Turkish prison, Visit Odessa, Hire a prostitute to mow my lawn, or set my teeth on fire than eat that stuff.
