Is it possible to know if someone is gay by the way they smell?

I was in a shopping mall today and two dudes were in front of me waiting at the checkstand and whatever they were wearing just smelled gay. I cant really explain it. They looked pretty normal as in not feminine (not much at least, okay one of them was wearing lipstick) but as soon as I smelled what they where wearing I immediately knew they were gay. Not bashing or anything, just inquiring.

Is there some proof of this? Research or anything?

Actually, homosexuals can't smell cos they don't have noses.
