Most typical would be 3 and 7, IMO.

A majority are sub-Nordid and likely far-north Italy in origin.

Nordids, would not think they are Italians on first sight

They are hardly mainstream for Italy.

Nah, I don't think he would care. The fact is, most of these people are not really Italian. They are Lombards. If you wanna call Lombards ethnic Italians, go ahead, but it is not true. They test SO FAR out of the Italian sample it is not even funny.

Northern Italians anyone? ;) A lot of these people in the Olympics don't even have Italian names and some were born elsewhere. The others are from either Trieste or or Turino.

Yes, they come overwhelmingly from the far North of Italy, judging by the ones who Nordopelli himself has posted elsewhere. So does the Italian rugby team, for that matter. Thus of course, they are lighter than Sicilians and Calabrese...

i think i will ask them what is wrong and why they dont look like the people on these pictures (i am serious with everything.. no sarcasm)

Mostly it has to do with regions. People in the far north do not score 100% Italian on tests, as many southerners don't either. They go in opposite directions though. Both partially resemble central Italians though. :)

i never knew about these differences before joining here

i just heard a few times that northern italians and southern italians (especially sicilians) dont like each other very much but i always asked myself why that is

i knew an italian man (who looked central european....i thought he was german) and i asked him if he is sicilian (like i said i didnt know the difference) and he said something like (it was 3 years ago i dont remember the exact words) "no but i dont make differences i dont have anything against them" and i was thinking "uuhm ok why should you lol" but didnt ask why he said that

It's not that northerners and southerners dislike one another but that southerners see northerners as cold/boring/workaholic types and northerners see southerners as less European/lazy/etc.

Interesting, since my mom is native lombard... so i'm half non italian...

This isn't a widespread thing, but still present as sentiment.

I personally haven't absolutely nothing against southerners, being born and lived most of my life in a city filled with sicilians, calabreses and campanians.

We aren't cold and southern italians aren't ''lazy'', since without the hordes of southern italians workers from the '50s to nowadays, North Italy would be absolutely nothing economically.

#2 is Francesca Lollobrigida from Frascati (Rome).
No idea who the others are. Guess they're all from Northern Italy/South Tyrol.

You can see there big regional differences in Italy of the people, probably more than any other European country except Russia. Russia is so big you except differences. With Italy you have people that look like Arabs from the extreme south and ones that can look Swedish, in the North. It just shows a lot of different ethnic groups make up Italy.

But he should.

Minard, you know very very little about Italy. Lombards - the Germanic tribe - has nothing to do with these Italians in the pics. These are all Italian Winter sport athletes that perfectly represent Italian people living in the Italian Alps.

Lombards are the inhabitants of modern-day Lombardy, nowadays. The historical ones settled in Italy 1500 years ago (when USA was still inhabited by Native Americans and some coyotes) and Longobards don't exist anymore as a separated ethnic group because they intermarried with others very early since their arrival. In English you do much confusion because you use the same word for both.

Anyhow, I don't understand why an Italian of Longobardic ancestry (in any case he'd be heavily mixed with other Italians) is less Italian than a Sicilian or Calabrian of Greek or Levantine ancestry.

They're all north italians since i hardly can see how a sicilian or a calabrese would be champions of skying and snowboard, lol

True, the most southern Italian champions of skying were Alberto Tomba and Zeno Colò, both from Appennino Tosco-Emiliano. The border between Northern and Central Italy.
